Hello everyone

so I'm going away for 4 days., sunday to wed.

I already got a small auto feeder for my reef tank to drop pellets,

what do I do for my seahorses :S

should I drop pellets in and hope they eat some (they only eat mysis for now)

any Ideas ?

how many days can they diet for ?

I have no Idea what to do lol, there are pods in the tank, andits over 6 months old, but not sure if they can reply on live food for 4 days.

any advice is appreciated.

hatch ALOT of brine shrimp tonight till tomorrow and trow ALL of them in ?

help please :D

I have a petsitter that I have trained (the person varies, so I have a standing training checklist that I go through with them before hand) that comes by when I go out of town.

One day af fasting is fine (in fact some breeders advocate a day of fasting a week for seahorses), more than one day is not fine. Also, I think that a week of once a day feedings are fine too, just make it the exception, not the rule (unless you design your system to specifically provide additional food for the rest of the day).

Do you have a fuge with a macro algae? If so, you could put a large wad of whatever macro you have in the fuge in the DT while you are gone. This will give pods an area to hide, and the SHs an area to hunt.

I dont think adding a lot of brine shrimp to the tank is a good idea, except maybe short term, it doesnt seem to matter how much live brine I add, it is ALWAYS completely gone in just a couple of hours. Perhaps you could have someone come by and add some brine to the tank every day?

Yea I guess I'm gonna have someone come over and fed them,

I do have alot of SW molly's which I can trow in there and seahorses will eat them eventually but, as u said, they will most probably eat them all in one day

ahhhh training ppl is hard, I'm scared they leave a pump or something off and leave and ....

thanks :) I guess I have tonight to train someone :P hahah

:) remember when training someone (especially when they are random like my pet sitting service), they WILL forget something that is not fail safed.

Your mention of the pumps reminded me about this. I have the pumps I shut off for feeding (a powerhead and tunze wavebox) set to a button time-out timer. They press the button which shuts the pumps off, 15ish minutes later, everything turns back on :D That way they (and I) dont have to remember to plug stuff back in.

Also, I premeasure the food and put it in little cups that are labeled by date in the fridge.

Finally, the checklist I have is a daily thing that is physically filled out, it looks along these lines:

DO: Press red button

DO: Put food in tank

Check: Water level

Check: Temperature

Call If X, X or X.

I also put flourescent pink stickies on all the CHECK items and the button.

Basically, I boil it down to the point where, if they can read, they can take care of my tank in the short term (I know they can read since they leave me notes on their visit every day they come in and walk my dogs).

yea you are right, I do have a RKL controller, will set the standby on it tonight and connect all pumps to that :D excellent

its just the feeding, everything else is good, Auto top off and ...
