gold maxima

i've had a gold maxima just under a year when i first bought him he expanded nicely, now he doesn't expand like he use too....
i have 4- 96w pc (384w total) over 50gal breeder 36"x18"x18" had a blue maxima which died after 3mths ....could the fish be scarring him in too much? yellow tang, purple tang, white stripe maroon, blue devil damsel, three line damsel

29 gal sump with three chambers to keep out air bubbles
diy skimmer with 950 mag drive pump
1800 mag drive pump for return
 
IMHO the lighting is more the issue. Clams need light and plenty of it. I would reccomend using MH lighting for your clams. JMO.
 
I think light is an issue, but not the only issue IMO. Maxima in low light with nothing else wrong will hyperextended for a while then quickly died over 1-2 days. Most likely problem in your case is parasitic snails. If you don't know what I ma talking about, then most likely this is the problem.
Check your gold Maxima for tiny white snails around the mantle at night and around the bysal opening and hide in the scales durring the day. Clean them off, remove all the scales so you acn clean the clam. Theck the clam every day or two until you get all the parasites off. your clam may recover if you give it optimal enviroment. IMO, your light is not optimal for Maxima.
