Gold striped Maroon clown's stripes turned white

We got our gold striped maroon clown in March 2005 and his stripes have slowly turned white. What would be the cause of this and is there any way to reverse it?

Here is a photo of him from when we first got him over a year ago, March 2005

It could be dietary, but that is just a guess. It could also be natural. I can't recall seeing an adult gold-stripe maroon.

How big was the clown in the first pic and how big in the second pic? I have a gold stripe maroon that is approx 3 1/2 inches. I got it just a couple months ago, so I cannot speak for what it looked like when it was small. Now it is very dark maroon and the stripes are still yellow. There is a little border of white along the edge of the yellow. You can see some pics in my thread on this forum.

He was maybe an inch when we got him and now he's about 2".
