Golden Carpet Anemone Dying?

I purchased a golden carpet anemone from my lfs to weeks ago this coming Saturday. I put it in my 75 gallon tank, where I previously had my purple carpet anemone, which I had sold. The first few days, it looked ok, then I noticed that it wasn't opening up, and was looking really bad. Sat and watched the tank and realized my lemonpeel angel was picking on it. So last weekend I took out the angel and moved her somewhere else. I thought that the carpet would start improving, in a day or 2, but it didn't. So, I thought maybe she didn't like the tank. So I moved her to my 40 gallon mixed reef. Fishwise, in the tank, I had 3 black chromis, 2 bluegreen chromis, another type of angel, and a pistol shrimp. I had only had the angel in there for about 3 weeks, and so far hadn't bothered anything. So for a day, it looked to be doing better. Then I noticed the angel picked at her foot. So, here we go again. Tore up the tank Tuesday night and got the angel out of there and put her somewhere else. I took pix and went to my lfs store. He told me she was dying, and I would know for sure within 24 to 48 hours. Well today is 48 hours. And she looks a little better, still alive. Any help or suggestions would be great. I am going to put before and after pix if I can figure it out. As far was water params, salinity, 0.125, ph 8.2, ca 420, buffer 8. Thanks.

I too agree that it is very badly bleached. Also, a combination of the angel picking at it, being bleached, and moved twice (once from the lfs and once to your other tank) are really taking a toll on it. With carpets, you really just have to let them acclimate. What is your flow and lighting like?

The nem is extremly bleached and doesn't have a good chance of survival to begin with and than the fish being an issue etc doesn't help. But you have been tricked by the fish store sayings it a golden anemone as it is not by any means as it has no color and white is bleached

I have it under a 150mh with 2 t5 actinics. The nem was mostly yellow. It is showing a lot of white now due to the issues it is having. The 48 hours was up today, that my lfs predicted it would die. I just came home from work, and so far so good. Hopefully, it will get over being stressed and get better. Any help would be great. As for flow, she is in a 40 gallon tank, and I have a mp10es on the tank.

The lighting I have is a 150mh plus 2 t5 actinics. She is in a 40 gallon cube. As for flow, I have a mp10es on the tank. She was pretty yellow, and full when I got her, but due to the stress, she is yellow on the outsides and white now. Wasn't white when I got her. My lfs predicted she would die between 24-48 hours. Today at noon was 48 hours. So far, she is hanging in there. She is moving up closer to a rock, and is moving pretty well. Any help would be great. Thanks.

I had a green one that was all white from stress. I used 3 layers of screening to block the light to reacclimate it and it was so dark it looked like the lights were out, but the carpet loved it and would start changing shape and deflating if I removed a layer. I removed one layer every 10 days as it recovered its color, and it made a full recovery. This was under a 250w MH, so yours may go faster, but I would strongly recommend the screening until it's color returns.

Also, I fed it half a scallop every other day as long as I owned it, and it never spit any out, FYI.

I have her in a 40 gallon with 5 chromis, and a few corals. Where do you get the screen, and how to you set it up? She seems to be doing a little better tonight. She has moved even closer to the rocks, and more of the tentacles seem to be moving, although she still has a lot of white, just like in the pix. I thought last night she was definitely gone. She was puffed up, but her mouth was wide open, at least the size of a quarter of bigger, and she was pushing stuff out, up through her mouth, but it never fully came out. Then she would suck it all back in, close her mouth again, and this would go on periodically. Now, today, her mouth has been pretty much closed. I was surprised at how fast she was opening and closing her mouth. I thought that if she was very close to dying, that she wouldn't have the energy to open and close her mouth that quickly, or move everything so well. Maybe wishful thinking.

I just bought window screening at Home Depot. I bought the premade window screen thing for $10 or so ans laid it across the top.

If it is still changing shape, and opening it's mouth, you're still not out of the woods. I had a blue one that gaped and closed again and again until it hid in the rocks and then it died the next day. :(

I would just lay these screens on top of the glass above the nem? How long did it take yours to recover? She is not as spread out as she was, but she is still puffy. Her mouth hasn't been open as much, as it was last night. Thanks for your help. I will try the screens.

not many anemones recover from being bleached like that.another way to test how healthy it is is by lightly touching the tentacles and seeing how sticky it is.dont do that though if your allergic to stings!!?

Thanks for the info. Glad yours recovered. Mine isn't looking too well this morning. But tentacles are still sticky. Off to work. Will post when I get home this evening. thanks again for the help.

Came home, and she looks pretty much like I left her. She is moving around, and still sticky. I put some screen over the top this morning before I left for work. But she still has all this stuff in her mouth. She is not spitting it out or anything, it is just there. She is still puffing up. I really don't know what to watch for. How long can she be like this before she either gets better or she doesn't? What do I look for? She doesn't appear to have any bad spots on her. Where her mouth is, there isn't any whole or anything coming out the foot. The bottom of her appears to be intact. Just that stuff in her mouth... It isn't coming out or going anywhere. Her mouth isn't as far open as it was before.

I suggest you not touch the anemone too much. Firing nematocyst (what makes the anemone sticky) is an unnecessary strain on your already compromised haddoni. You need to provide the anemone with excellent water conditions. What are your parameters?

salinity 0.125, ph 8.2, KH 8, Nitrate 0, Nitrate 20. CA a few days ago was 440, Phosphate 0. I just did a water change last Wednesday.

When I first put up the window screening, it took about 48 hours before mine really started looking good again. Here's hoping that's all it tales. IDK what to say about the stuff in the mouth. Can you post a picture?
