goldflake angel problem

Pulpol, you might want to start getting a QT tank ready so that the biological filter gets going. You might have to take more drastic actions if the no-itch does not work.

I have found that having cleaner shrimp in the tank eliminates ich problems on new fish within a day or so. Most fish with ich will accept the friendly services of cleaner and peppermint shrimp. From what I understand, and I've been wrong before, ich is present in most systems, it normally just affects fish that are stressed or unhealthy. For those who don't have the ability to quarantine, having a few cleaners is a godsend. I have never had ich spread from a new stressed fish to the healthy ones in my tank.

You CAN run a closed system that is totally free of ICH. It doesn't HAVE to be in your tank just waiting to go on the attack.

too late guys, he died a few days ago, other fish are doing great with no signs of ick, i think my other fishes are kinda immune to ick... i dont know for sure but it seems like it's true, thanks for all the help

Sorry for your loss, my goldflake angel develop ich a week a so after I purchased it, since it was eating like a pig I fed it spectruma+a soaked in minced garlic, it cleared up nicely. Also gf are prone to skin flukes, which i treated with prazipro. So far so good.

Wish that is saw this before that angel died, sorry i was on vaction and no computer.

Here is what I would have done in that situation:
Raise the temp to 80 degrees and treat the tank with Metronidazole everyday with 25% waterchanges before every treatment. In my experience using Hyposaline stresses the corals too much and they slime excessively and of course copper is never a good idea in a reef tank. But treating the entire tank is a good thing because of the elevated population of the parasite, and using the Metro when it just starts has worked great for me.

Sorry to hear about the fish.

Here is my 2 cents on ich.

Ich is an incredibly confusing pathogen. There are only two treatments that are proven, through clinical trials, to cure it - copper and hypo (though the transfer method seems to work as well) - neither of which should be used in a reef tank, rather in a hospital tank. There is no proven treatment for treating an full blown reef.

The life cycle of the parasite is such that almost any action (treatment, additive, food, etc) looks like it clears up the infection. Plus, fish can develop and immunity or a partial immunity, which only helps to confuse the issue more. Because of this confusion, there are a billion treatments thrown around as working. I have seen people say that everything from ginger to changing light bulbs cures ich, but like I say, the life cycle of this parasite makes anecdotal evidence almost useless.
Read the article linked or the other articles in reefkeeping.com or advancedaquarist.com and make up your own mind. :D

PS - Tyler, when I did most of my reading and questioning on ich, people who did studies told me that the temp raise idea is a hold over from the treatment of the similar freshwater ich, but that it didn't help in the saltwater parasite. :D

Ooulophilia, You derailed this thread, and for no apparent reason, I dont agree with many on this board, and I post comments all the time, yet these people are friends and or people that I know and I respect. I hope you are old and wise enough to disagree with someone without calling them an idiot. Reputations, especially a bad one, comes quickly when you post negative remarks as you did. Its a small world, and within the reef community, its even smaller, sooner or latter you will meet the people you label idiots and they nor others that have read your post will have any respect for you and your thoughts. At that point you will find yourself un-liked and unwanted at social functions, this message board, and others. Reef Central and BAR are communities to foster friendship and sharing of ideas, please reflect, and in the future, please find a message that dosnt personally attack or offend an individual.

Given that the fish is gone, and this thread is not going anywhere good, we're going to call it a night.
