Here's an update on my juv Goldflake...This morning it was on it's side and doesn't look like it'll make it. I'll check back later this afternoon, but chances are slim. There's something about them being so small that is very challenging for me. I fed mainly Mysis Shrimp, Cyclopeeze, and crushed NLS pellets. All the other fish I have in QT (from PIA) are doing very well. This guy just seemed to become finicky after 3 days in QT. It ate on Day 2 and 3 in QT, but slowly diminished. Only picked at food on Day 4 but never ate any food whole after that. Totally bummed.
ROBONE20- How's the Moorish Idol doing? Is he still in quarantine?
I'm assuming the tiny Goldflake didn't make it. Do you think he might have been too small, consequently, more of a "higher maintenance" fish?
PIA has another Goldflake on their website. This one is over 4 inches.
I'm still wondering which is hardier/easier to adapt to captivity: the juvenile Goldflakes or larger ones.

I have had a golden flake in my system for about six years now. He picks and grazes constantly, and eats about any thing he finds in the tank. He is number three in the pecking order underneath an Emperator and Majestic Angel but he doesnt get messed with much. I have a large shaded area of live rock in one of my sumps so i am able to feed sponges once or twice a month. I also recycle a lot of algae from my sumps back through the angels. However, the only out side food I give them is 3/4 sheet of nori and a lump of shredded squid or fresh clam in the morning every day. They all seem to stay healthy, fat and more importantly very regular with this regime. In the past before i swiched to this feeding regime I would loose many fish at the one or two year mark. Now, almost all my fish are over six years old and going strong. I believe the heavy nori feedings are a major factor in their contnued long term sucess. Yeah unfortunately the juvie GF didn't make it. I think he was a bit too small that it was tough for me to feed it. I think he was a little high maintenance but that's just my opinion. He shipped fine and lost interest of food after a few days. If I had some live rock in my QT it might of been better for it since they seem to graze all day. But who knows. I would go for the bigger one from PIA, they seem to adapt better. Kevin doesn't ship fish if it's not eating or if it's not doing well and he keeps them in QT for a while before he posts them on his website. My other adult GF is doing well and eats everything from NLS pellets, to flakes, frozen mysis and brine. Does well with my other angels that I have and they don't seem to bother each other at all.
As for the Moorish Idol, he's doing well right now. Going through the Cupramine treatment which should end soon, then I'll start a Prazi treatment afterwards. He's still eating pellets like a pig. I also have a Mystery Wrasse that came from the same shipment and he's doing well too. Hopefully they can make it to the 'big leagues' (my DT). I worry about my Purple Tang going after them, but that's a different story...

Thank you. My golden flake was about 2 inches when i got him. Small but not tiny at all.
