Goniopora and Clown Goby?

I've got a Goniopora, not sure the exact species, it's blue-ish-purple - or at least it should be. It's usually hiding away most of the time.

I saw this slideshow: http://archiv.korallenriff.de/Sindelfingen2006/Germany-neu2.pdf

In one of the slides, it says "Watch out! Clown Gobies can be a problem!", but it doesn't explain why. Has anybody else heard this?

This is a pretty common occurrence:

Any help is appreciated.

Any contact (fish, shrimp, hermits, human) will cause polyps to retract and stay in which IMO (a) prevents it from feeding, and (b) stresses the coral.

from what i've read clown gobies like to perch on coral, mostly sps that i've seen with mine, and it can be stressful to the coral. I think theres also a possibility of them nipping at it.

I have ORA reds which are open all day but retract at night. The YCG never goes near them when the polyps are out and stays in my candy cane forest at night. In fact I've never seen this fish anywhere near the sand bed where my gonis are located.

BTW many Toni's are indeed rent a corals (great term) but not all. The ones sold by ORA
do survive long term in the right conditions. (based on reading as I've bad mine for just a few months).

my clown hosts in my Duncan and I think it gets even more open the more she wriggles in and out. Clown goby on the other hand just sits on my one Acan annoying it.
