Gonipora, in need of help

I bought a large gonipora from my LFS. It was huge when i saw it and decided that i should get it.

It shrunk anout half its size and polyps retracted.
Everything else in my tank are doing fine, whats wrong with this guy?
He's been in my tank for about 2 days now. His polyps are somewhat opening but they're like shriveling up. Theyre on the sandbed w plenty of space w.o the neighboring corals.

-how long does he beed to acclimate?
-is this normal and it takes time?
-should i feed it? (I target fed it once)

They are difficult corals to keep, especially wild specimens. Once they start closing up, it's pretty much end game.

For your sake as well as the coral's I hope it is still acclimating. Try target feeding to see if you get a response. They also like high flow.

I heard that theyre hard but this one was doing well when i got it. Its only 2 days, its actually opening and not contracting but its not extending alot like its supposed to

Goni's like dirty water, higher nitrates and phosphates than other corals and they also like a decent amount of light and flow. They are heavy eaters too. There is a lot to read if you search Google or even this site. They are probably one of the most difficult lps to keep.

I have one that lost a lot of tissue when I first put it in the tank. I found that after lights out some amphipods were chowing down on the tissue. Using a red light i could see 3-4 on it eating. My theory is there was damaged tissue and the amphipods were eating but damaging healthy tissue in the process. I ended up sitting it on a frag rack where they can't reach it. The damage stopped immediately. Took about 2 months before I put it back on the rocks and the amphipods haven't touched it since.

+1 , I had a huge colony of purple and green goni's for a long time very tempermental they hate every thing Temp changes , Salinity changes even small ones but if you want them to extend put them in lower flow. Did you quarantine/dip them if not check them out real well

I'd try feeding it. It'll eat Reef Roids, Goniopower, Zooplankton, Reef Mist and Coral Frenzy (0.5 mm pellets). If you can get it to open a little more each day, that's progress. Also Kent Marine's Iron and Manganese can help to reverse the shrinking/dying process.
