gonodactylus curacaoenisis

Anyone familiar with this species? I forewent putting a 6"+ monster in my 5 gallon set-up and recently had someone contact me to tell me they had this species available. I couldn't find any information on it and was curious if anyone here might know anything about them. Supposed to be reddish/brown in color and approximately 2" in length is the only additional Information I received.

Try running a search for "curacaoensis" in this forum. I just did one and came up with about 30 posts mentioning this species.

Is that exactly what you searched on? I just tried an unrestricted search on all the forums here for curacaoensis and the only post thread returned was this very topic.

I searched just the mantis shrimp forum using keyword and any date. There were about 30 hits. Often when forget to set the date function, it searches for only the most recent posts. Also, you want key word, not title of the thread.

After several discussions with Gonodactylus, he (and then I ) are convinced that the Mantis I have is a N. curacaoensis. At first it was rather shy, but now stands around the edges of the LR watching things going on outside its 20g world. It's in the bottom tank on a twin 20g iron stand which makes it available to cat viewing incidentally- and I see one of my cats regularly observing the mantis (or is that visa-versa??) in a sort of 'Mexican Standoff'. It looks out at me and occasionally 'flips me off' with a meral spread! Very interesting! It loves mysis and frozen plankton and small snails and I see it hunting/eating pods as well. I suppose thins isn't all that informative but more of a recommendation. Very hardy and tolerant of less than perfect water conditions. (which I never encounter, of course! LOL)
