Good community eel?

What's a good community eel?

Looking to add an eel to my 125, and don't want to worry about it going after my lions. I don't want to get another ribbon eel (still bummed about loosing my last one) and on the fence about a zebra moray. Are there any other good non-aggressive eels that someone can recommend?

Snowflake Eel is great man. I had one that wouldn't touch any fish. It would kill every shrimp, crab, and some snails though.

IME, SFE's get mean when they get some size on them and will indeed kill/eat tankmates. I had one for 15 years, and towards the latter part of this, I had to keep it in its own tank. I was bitten twice by that specimen, and the second time it stuck it's head out of the tank to bite me as I was replacing a lamp in the canopy

I've had Richardson's morays before and they've never bothered fish or inverts. They stay pretty small, too.

I would say SFE or chain link, although wouldn't trust either 100% with small fish. Zebra is the #1 choice for me, otherwise one of the common Echidna would suffice, perhaps even E. rhodochilus if you can find one and acclimate to full saltwater.

I would look into a Dwarf Golden Moray or a Zebra Moray. I have a 24" Zebra in with a Declivis Butterfly, Yellow Tang, Swallowtail Angel, Royal Grammas, Chalk Basslets and Sleeper Gobies. He has been a model citizen for several months.

I go with the chain link or the zebra. You can get a snow flake but they always find away out.

I've never been "popped" by a scorp in the 20 years or so that I've kept them (knocking on my wooden head), altho my first volitans used to suck my fingers into its mouth if it was super hungry (it INSISTED on a hand-fed treat when I worked on the tank).

One of the reasons I HATE clownfish is because I've been bitten so many times by them. Of course, they're just nasty-a$$ little damsels in fancy PJ's...

Greg I feel like having your fingers sucked on by a lion was just asking for trouble. :lol: Has Renee ever gotten stung? My Volitan will perch on my arm and follow me around trying to, really cool, but first couple times having a lion come swimming after me was terrifying.

How active are chain link/zebras, a dive shop near me has a zebra and I've never seen it moving around, course it is in a 55 gallon so that could be a part of it.

zebras are not particularly active, neither are chain link (i can attest to that personally)...other species like banded morays are pretty active, as are Gymnothorax tile as far as common species go
