Royal Gramma do like to hang around the rock structure. I do see my RG swimming in and out of the rock, hover upside down a lot of time. They have very interesting swimming pattern but they are not out in the open water often.
I found grammas to do best in dimmer lit tanks with rather calm tank mates. Also the rock work needs to be right, with large open caves, overhangs and plenty of holes for them to take shelter in.
we finally got our rockwork The way we like it with big caves little caves and holes to swim through, I don't mind them not being out in the open I just would like to be able to see them here and there.
You can see them. You can see them spawn. The male swim up to the female perform a jig to entice her to go to his den. Really neat. I often have a harem of them with one male and 4+ females. The are dimorphic and protogynous hermaphodites. The female change sex rather quickly if not suppress by a male
