good lfs in naperville

Petfun used to be good, Petland is expensive, Petco (I don't think that I need to say anything), Pets Etc. is like Petfun w/ a smaller selection, Ummmm you're screwed if you limit yourself to Naperville :)

Now you can shoot up 64 to Splash of Life and then go a little bit further up to Rod's reef and if you are looking for livestock, check out Reef Plus at the intersection of Randall Rd. and Oak St. in North Aurora.

Sorry to say..but Splash of Life has closed. Believe Bret is still doing ponds..as well as the Zero Edge tanks.

Wanted to save Drew the driving time.

Petland has kinda gone to the dumps. Fish sit there for a while, not a lot of traffic, *very* expensive corals (think $99.00 for mushrooms!), $40-$50 Xenia, $29 Bicolor Blennies, etc...new kids running the store...wants to be a saltwater stuff but very light on equipment....Petco has a very limited fish selection and that's it....can't wait until someone opens up a real store in Naperville!

This is so easily answered that I feel it's a set up. .

And the best LFS in Naperville IIIIIsss. . . . . . . . . .!!!??

PETLAND!!

And what are you talking about expensive!!? I got a large speghetti Leather for $50 which is now showpeice size. Last time I was there, there was a NICE sized zoanthid rock for $50 and it had like 50-70 polyps on it! Fish are in nice large sized tanks so they have alot of room and generally are very healthy. I don't see how they have "gone to the dumps". . I've been there just recently and everything still looked pretty good.

All that I buy from PetLand is cleaner crew - Another alternative (though not in Naperville) is Deep Reef Aquatics on 63rd and Woodward - I think it's Woodridge - Pretty good stuff, not too pricey

Petfun (down by Walmart on 59) doesn't have much at all -

Another Petland comment -

I recently watched a pretty nice Xenia piece melt in their tanks over a period of a week before it finally got pulled - despite my comments to the kid that worked there.

FWIW- I think that they might be trying to change things at that store though, they recently had the tiles replaced throughout the whole store.

I think it's technically North Aurora...

Reef Plus
Address: 935 Oak St, North Aurora, IL 60542
Phone: (630) 906-7333

Another place worth the drive is:

Tropi Quatics
Address: 337 S Main St, Lombard, IL 60148
Phone: (630) 953-2696

Tropi-Quatics in Lombard was worth the drive from Naper-tucky.
Prices were reasonable ($25 for a Pearly Jawfish, $22 mandarins, $20 grommas, $9 banded shrimp I think, 10 bumblebees for $15, etc...some other good prices on corals, cleaner crew and more), they do have equipment (lights, tanks, nanos, pumps, frozen food) and seemed very friendly. They also offer a percentage discoutn if you become a member of their "club" for $10...

Reef Plus is a nice store- also reasonable prices on fish, though not as broad a selection as Tropi Quatics. He is selling a number of his corals / softies / LPSes since he is trying to re-do his frag / coral tank into a bigger show tank. Equipment is reasonable - he does have pumps, skimmers, lights, bulbs, chem tests, additives, on and on...

bump for the good information (phone #'s) :D.

Tropiquatics also has tigger pods which is great if you don't have to order them over the net!

I have just become a supporter of Reef Plus. Steve is a great guy and really helpful. And has well cared for fish.

The fish @ tropiquatics are always full of ich though.. good prices.. but i've seen alot of fish w/ probs there

Oh I wouldn't buy my fish at Tropi either. I plan to buy atleast my first couple of fish from Steve. And see how they do. His fish look alot more healthy.

I much prefer Deep Reef for fish as do many others.

From Naperville, for corals it's a no-brainer, Rod's Reef hands down best. Steve is good but I recall his prices being high and coral selection not great but it's a while since I've been in the shop. I like him though.

He WILL bargain if you are reluctant though. For drygoods atleast. Not sure about coral. Don't tell him I told you that.
