I am going to be in Albany, NY at Christmas time. Where are the good LFS. My mother in law has a 24 gallon aquapod and I want to get her a coral or 2...

Thanks in advance

Here's a good place to start:

Swamp Bottom here
Eddies here

**** Don't mean to leave any of the other stores out, but these two are listed on our "sponsor" site *****

Davy Jones locker in Albany also has a nice selection of coral. Right on Delaware Ave.

:blown:

I was tempted not to suggest any other stores besides the sponser stores. I'm pretty new to this so I don't know all the politics. I have been to Davy Jones and I thought the corals were good quality. So I apologive if I offended anyone.

No...you didn't! :D

"Politically speaking".....I think the general concensus is simply Not to bash any local stores (reasonable...bash 'em off the public forum ;) ).

I suggested Swamp Bottom and Eddies only because those two have donated (etc....) to our club and are listed on the sponsor site (cdmas.org).

That doesn't mean that there aren't other quality stores in the area.

So.....no, you're fine :)

See you at the next meeting!

Yeah i agree with Krazy K

The problem you will find with Davey Jones Locker is that they are lighting their coral tanks with NO lighting. Which is mainly actinic. If you look at them long enough or close enough you will see how they are suffering.

I've brought this up with the owner in the past and he stated he has tried increasing the lighting but his livestock suffered more. I tried to explain that they will need to adjust and explained some ways to help them adjust to the new light. But anyone who knows this person its like talking to a wall. Some people just don't do their research  If you buy anything there which i sometimes do just plan on aclimating it real well. I would even use coral disinfectant.

Thats my .02

Your best bet is Eddies, Swamp Bottom & Union Aquarium ;)

Agreed. And if you know you are looking for something in particular at Union our member ReefD works there. Very knowledgable and usually is up on what is in stock.

P.s. Dave we miss those updates
