Good spots for snorkeling close to shore

My fiancé and I were looking to go on vacation somewhere where we can find good snorkeling on the hotel beach or somewhere close by (meaning we don't have to go with a tour group and can snorkel off the beach at will). Any suggestions for vacation ideas or hotels?

I would suggest Maui. There is lots of snorkeling there.

The beah out front drops off into the most beautiful reef you will probably ever see so close to a beach. I've been visiting there for 10+ years and each time i go I discover new parts of the reef.

Local, Id say go over to Catalina. For a vacation, try the big island or Oahu. beautiful snorkeling on both of those islands.

Yeah the Hawaiian Islands seem to be a popular choice. Do the Islands (Oahu for example) have spots close to shore that I can swim out to?

hayman island, the Whitsundays QLD Australia. check out Blue pearl bay. Awesome.

Check out the post about snorkling in Maui. There are some excellent spots right on the beach. Throw your mask and fins on and start kicking. Unbelievable amount of coral and fish!
