gorilla glue super glue reef safe?

I saw that gorilla glue makes a super glue and its in a larger bottle than most super glues in the store, the only thing is I was wondering if it was reef safe. The label says it is cyanoacrylate, but they added rubber particles "for increased impact strength". Just wondering if anone has tried it, or would at least know if the rubber would make a difference?

they use ruber on bulk heads pumps and tones of other stuff no if the ruber is say old tires then it may leach somthing over time

First off i would say that it is regular cyanoacrylate and not a gel version as soon as the liquid hits the water if not dried first it will float to the top of the tank because it is much less dense than water. Second there is no way to tell if the rubber is inert, you could ask the company for a MSDS sheet to see if it is or try to find out what the source of rubber is. Personally I wouldn't put it in my reef until i saw the MSDS sheet.

I know a few people who have use it with no ill effects that I'm aware of...I still like the gel better...it just seems to "behave" better for me, LOL!

I didn't notice that it wasn't a gel. Gel works so much better, and I found a bunch of gel clearanced out at a store so I bought all of it.

I dont think its toxic, but I too prefer the Gel! Its just sooo much easier to work with!

I use IC gel for most things.......but I actually prefer this gorilla stuff for gluing polyps, becasue it is so much thinner than the gel, yet much thicker than the regular, and as such it doesnt want to create a well of glue around the polyps that is easy to do if you use just a little too much gel.

That "well" that is created by using just a little too much gel super glue when gluing polyps down holds back the initial growth and healing time I believe

sure you can get the gel ones for 3 for a $1, but for me, I frequently forget to put the cap back on so they end up $1 for 3 uses so it actually cost me a lot more. The gorilla super glue has a needle inside the cap that pumctures through any dried up glue in the nozzle while you screw in the cap. I have left the gorilla super glue uncapped for a couple days and after putting the cap on and taking it off, I can use the glue again without any clogged nozzle issue. I only use a small drop so running is not an issue, and it dries sufficiently fast enough and bonds quite well just like any gorilla glue product.

You can get 4 ounce bottles of CA glue at any hobby shop. Very nice bottles and caps and you can get it in just about any thickness you want.

You must not use much glue than I don't think after using the glue that a tube has ever had anything left in it.

Used it twice and it functioned reasonably well. I did however experience issues with the fact that it was not viscous enough and some of the glue floated off into the water column. I ultimately made the shift to a "gel superglue" i found from my local hobby shop.

On a side note the gorilla glue did not bond with the waterfall foam I used in my rock-scape. Has anyone found a good glue to use to glue frag disc to waterfall foam?

CA glues will eat most types of foam. If you go to a hobby store they sell foam safe or oderless CA for glueing foams.

Is there a minimum waiting time after glueing? I had the bottom 'legs' of my vertex reactors base plate fall off while I was trying to modify for biopellets. I glued them on, but wasn't sure when it would be safe to submerge again. By the sounds of it, most people submerge instantly??? I used the gel super glue stuff.

I've used it in the tank. I needed a frag glued without moving a huge buried rock. I just gobbed it on and stuck it in and broke the sac where it dries when it hits the water. Seems to work fine for me.

I've also used it many other times in all of my tanks. I haven't noticed any effects after 8 months.

So what you are saying is that the surfaces do not need to be dry? It doesn't say on the tube... just clean. I'm a newbie and just got my 50 gallon tank two weeks ago.. glad i found this forum for help!!

I use the BSI Bob Smith Industries gel, and get the 8 oz (227g) to fill my 1 oz containers. The 8oz costs less than $20. How many grams are in the dollar store tubes?
