alright, i recently aquired a mantis shrimp(which i have named zoidberg) while purchasing some live rock for my aquarium, the little guy is only about 1.5 inches long right now, he's a bright lime green(no other colors as far as i can tell), definitely a smasher. any ideas on what kind he is? and if so, does anyone know how big he will get? what foods he will prefer? if he can stand up to the gorilla crab residing in the tank?

he's still rather timid right now, popping his head out occasionally to examine the surroundings, ive gotten him to eat twice now in the two days ive had him, both times feeding him small bits of salmon(he wont go after the pieces of shrimp or brine shrimp yet). but he does seem absolutely facinated by the pair of shiney metal tweezers i use to pull out the un eaten food, i almost succeeded in coaxing him all the way out of his cave by holding them just out of his antennas reach.

so any information that you all could provide would be extreamly helpful and most appriciated

also, is there any way i could get him more used to me so that he would be more willing to come out and explore the tank?

You really need to post a few pics to get a positive identification. Try to get one of the telson (tail), one from head on hopefully showing the meral spots (inside the raptorial appendages) and a full body shot. But that said, the most common small hitchhiker seems to be the N. Wennerae and they are often bright lime green if exposed to bright full spectrum lighting for a while... maybe that is what you have. As for getting him to be less shy, it may just take time. From what I have seen, personalities vary greatly even within the same species.
