Got an LTA Need some help.

Good that the mouth is closed, one less thing to worry about.

If possible, try to have some more sand in that spot, could use some of those smaller rocks to keep it in place/hide it. Hard to tell from the pictures, how big is the anemone?

Still dont get why it dug itself out of the sand when the lights went out. If the Tunze was on, it would be bad news. Its not real big, Maybe 2.5 - 3".

If I could tell you why it dug itself out I would be a genius. ;) I have found LTAs fairly easy to keep, but sometimes they are hard to get to settle in. With it being smaller you should have to need as deep of sand ( yet )

I am sure it would have been very bad news, years ago I came home from work to an awful smell and my LTA in a powerhead, it has been attached for months. Thank god it fully recovered.

Did you get it today?

I was just going to leave it alone tonight, but I dont like that it is not in the hole. I'll take your advice. I'm going to do it right now....

Cancel that. Even though it looks like it is not attached, it is! I'm leaving it alone. I'll see how it looks in the morning.

Thanks!!

fwiw: I don't recall any of my M. doreensis having gaping mouths, any of them with problems showed signs of deteriating on the column, would not attach, etc.

The really dont dig out, they just contract the column and pull away from the bottom, allowing sand to backfill behind them.

Not going well. :(

I got up @ 5:00 and went down and checked and it was still attached. Leaned way over and sort of lying down. At ~ 8:00 it detached. It is very long, inflated like a sausage. I dug another hole by the rock and put it in there.

Seems to be doing the same thing. I put him in a hole by the rock and it starts to work itself up and out of the hole. The lights start to come on @ 12:00. maybe I'll put them on early and see what that does.

Put the lights on and it went right back down into the hole. Could it have been looking for light?

Sorry to be such a newb on this, but nems are not my area of experience. I think with the lights on, it will stay put. The questions, will it do the escape thing again once they go off?

Just a thought..thinking maybe this is the problem.. is that frogspawn still near your anemone? Every time my frog spawn was near my LTA it would move or shrink up. So I took the frogspawn out and then the LTA looked happy again. Now that my LTA is in the 120g the frog spawn is on the other side of the tank and doesn't seem to bother my lta anymore.

You may have something there. When the lights went out, the nem leaned away as far as it could to the point it was lying down. It was leaning away from the frogspawn. I had to frag it up anyway. It was tipped over awhile back and lost some heads. I fragged it down to 2 small heads and have them higher up in the tank.

the nem is in the sand like yesterday, no frogspawn near by. The clowns seem to have a mild interest so far and check it out here and there.

Hi sjm817,
Just wanting an update on your LTA.
So how is it doing now? I hope its doing well, it is a beauty.
If it is doing well now..was the frogspawn the problem?
It would be good information for other lta owners to know frogspawns can annoy this type of anemone.
