Got my new 200g tank! ...didn't measure the height of the hallway...

So remember everyone: MAKE SURE THE TANK CAN ACTUALLY FIT THROUGH THE DOOR!

I feel your pain, but I couldn't help but chuckle because this is precisely the kind of thing I would do ..... and have done! Built a spiffing plywood tank into my basement years ago (assembled the tank in the room), only to discover upon moving that the tank wouldn't fit out through the door. Was possible to disassemble, but still.

Are you worried about the weight of a tank that size on the second floor of an apt?

Its against the outside wall, I don't see why it would be an issue. When I told the lady I had an 8' tank she seemed more concerned about the carpets than anything else.

She is most likely not a structural engineer and also has no idea how much a tank (or water) weighs.

Without knowing the construction, I'd be very worried putting a big tank on the second floor. Just because you are on an outside wall does not mean you have enough support. Half of all outside walls are parallel to the floor joists and have only one joist supporting the tank.

I agree with the concerns about the tank's weight. A 200 gallon is a big tank on a 2nd floor. Hope everything works out for you.

Well I can't get the tank inside anyway... so I don't think there is much to worry about ;)

What I meant to say is that you can sell the tank and get something smaller. I can only imagine how frustrating this must be. That said, maybe it"ll work out in the end. A large tank in an upper floor apartment can cause some negative consequences. I'm in LA about once a week if you need help moving a future tank.

I appreciate the offer. :) yeah, I think I'm just going to store it while I try to sell it. Expensive mistake but lesson learned. Hopefully I can find a buyer within a month or two.
