Got the 6305 -- so far, it's too loud to be usable

I've got one 6305 running in my tank now and while it's moving water beautifully, the low-pitched resonance is unbearably loud for my family members. It projects throughout the house...

I opened it up and confirmed the top is on tight and nothing is caught inside. The impeller assembly does seem a little loose, but i presume this is intentional.

I noticed steve (Jar*head) posted in reply to a similar 6105 complaint that it was just a break-in period. But I'm concerned about "breaking-in" this expensive pump and only finding that it's still too loud.

I have several 6101's and they are awesomely quiet... I'm wondering if I'm going to have to try and find some old 6201's to use instead!

Any guidance appreciated. I did try the "rotate the magnet 180 degrees" trick.

What size tank is it on? The magnet is incredibly strong and if you are using it on a small tank the rubber bumpons will compress to the point that the magnets are touching the glass and create a lot of reverberation noise. The magnet holder is designed for glass that is 3/4-1" thick, it is for very large tanks.

Tony, the pump has 2 years warranty on it. If the noise did not go away after 3 or 4 weeks, Roger will take care of it. As for the high pitch noise, i don't notice anything with either 6105, 6205 or 6305. Like Roger mentioned, make sure the magnet are not directly on your glass. One of my pump has a little humming noise but it went away after 10 days.

The glass is 3/4" thick. It's a rimless tank measuring 60x40x20 and is about 200g.

I found that one of the rubber feet had fallen off... so yes, there was some contact with the glass -- i've insured the feet are now all in place and will run it for a few days and see if the noise level is acceptable. There are a couple different sounds -- one is the direct forced vibration sound (low pitch) from the glass contact, which is minimized, the other is the whir of the motor, particularly at pulses which sounds like a blender... :-) Normally this would make me very happy -- it's the look on my wife's face that is my issue...

Tony, that sould will definitely go away after couple weeks make sure you fix magnet and put the rubber feet back on.
