Grabed some black zoas yesterday

Actually, I think they're technically parazoanthus, but whatever. I got several nice frags yesterday, but was particularly excited about these guys.

There are some at my LFS, But I've been staying away in case if they took off like the yellow zoas of the same shape.

Any thoughts on if they are photosynthetic or not? I'm pretty sure most black corals are not, but I have no idea here. Might try some cyclopeez tonight and see if there is a feeding response.

idk dude they just look plain old black to me when i buy a frag i imagine what a nice colony will look in my tank and i guess when they grow out they will just look "black" jmho but they are rare so i guess they will hold a premium price.

LOL, yeah, not the nicest zoas in my tank by a long shot, I just like them because they're different. I'm not planning on fragging them anytime soon, so I don't really care about holding value.

RIP to these guys I'm afraid. My own stupidity too. Power blinked while I was on vacation and my return pump decided not to restart. had these guys on a frag rack that was above the water after the water drained back into the sump. A few inches lower and they would have probably been fine, but they were exposed to air for several days and are history along with everything else on that rack

Sorry to hear. Do you use a UPS as backup, and own a surge protector?

Is power outage common to your area? It certainly is here, and the third thing I bought was a decent UPS. It has enough battery to run my pumps for about 3 days (72 hours).

And we've only lost power longer than 3 days once, since I've been alive. So that was the target number I was looking for.

Yeah, if the wind blows the wrong way, the damn power goes out here. I was under the impression most UPSs were good for a few minutes. Do you have a link to yours?
