Green Algae/Sludge? Dying Monti - Help!

I have this greenish brown color matter covering my live rocks as you can see on my pictures. They are relatively hard to scratch off. Anyone know what they are or how I can get rid of them? I thought they were diatoms at first but I would think diatoms are easier to remove.

Secondly, my montis color is browning out. Anything I can do to save it? My tank did not do so well over the last week - could not figure out why. Its slowly getting better now, but the monti was probably the worse hit. Water Parameters are:

Alk - 10 meq/L
Salinity - 1.026
Calc - 460
Ph - 8.2
Temperature - 78F

what are you nitrate and phosphate levels...?

0 for both on API test kits

i wouldnt trust those api test kits, and not to sound mean but i highly doubt both test results are zero. also how old are those test. i would got buy a salifert test kit for both and retest. i found that for alk and calcium api is close enough, since both have is a big range to what is aceptable, as long as they are stable

Have you checked that Montipora for pests yet? I can't tell from that picture whether it's browned out or if that's just algae growing over a dead skeleton.

the montipora are pest clean.

That being said, you are right - there is some algae growing over the skeleton. I just hope its not dead dead. Wondering if I can still save/reverse it

Your pics are too small but from what I can see all your SPS look bad..

His tank is brand new. Those rocks have no life in them. You really shouldn't keep sps unless you tank is older more mature ? Do you have an ato

If you have green algae, you have phosphate which sps doesn't like. I'd say run GFO changing media monthly until the green goes away. Your alk is a bit high: 7.9-9.0 is better, IMHO. And light quality in specific ranges is essential for these corals.
