Green BTA issues

So I started a new tank about 6 weeks ago and recently put in a GBTA. It was doing ok but now everyday after I adjust the water salinity and add water it seems aggravated and starts to shrivel and open it's mouth wide open. Every morning I see it and become relieved because it looks so healthy, and then later not so much. I was told an ato could help it from getting this way since salinity won't change so drastically. Any thoughts?

Before (not the best pic usually it's mouth is shut tight)

Your tank is way too new (young) to keep any anemone, they need stabil water parameters.

You say everyday when you adjust water salinity? You should not be adjusting it everyday at all. You should only top off with rodi water without salt. There are many other water parameters that you need to be testing as well. I highly suggest that you bring that bta back to the store where you bought it and let your tank mature for at least 6 months before you try another one. Also go to the new members forum here and read all of the sticky's as well as the ones in this forum and learn about keeping a saltwater tank along with any inhabitants you wish to keep.

I'm pretty safe in saying if you don't follow with bringing that bta back it will die and die pretty soon. Probably too late for it looking at the pictures.

i agree.

Try feeding it directly. It looks like it's hungry....it is an animal just like your fish It needs to eat.

bta's do not need to be fed they are more than capable of obtaining all the food it requires from lighting. it does not look hungry to me it looks stressed. feeding them actually can stress it out when they are in poor health because it requires alot of energy to digest the food and an anemone that isnt doing so well is already using alot of its energy trying to survive.

But yes I'm heading back to the store today to trade it back... Hopefully it bounces back and thanks for the advice

Unless your LFS is an exception it was probably already in poor health while at the store. Most stores have no idea how to care for nems and they start going downhill while at the store. Going from poor store conditions to a brand new tank your nem was very stressed and unhappy. It was way more than just your top off that made it upset.
