Green Film Algae

Wow, you need to keep this and copy and paste every time some one asks about cyno.. you have step by stepped it perfectly. Impressive.
lol

Thanks again lllesley, for encouraging and finally convincing me to use Chemiclean and for providing solid advice on how best to use it.

Wow. Geez what a difference. Your corals will be much happier now. In fact I know several reefers that use cc every 3 months or so to clean sludge & detritus off their rocks , they swear by it. Personally I can't be bothered with the massive water changes associated with using that often but I suppose once a year wouldnt hurt. A 40% change for me is a large hassle being at 600ltrs grrrrrr.

I lost a few heads on my torch to the algae. But so far CC has not done any harm to my LPS, SPS (mostly montys),palys,or Tridacna clam.

Mike

I personally think your torch would have lost heads anyway & don't believe it had anything to do with chemiclean. Cyno can be very toxic to corals if bad enough. They digest it by mistake & it has also been known to make the water toxic too. That's why NO cuc will touch it.

Absolutely. Torch was maimed well before I started CC protocol.

Today (day after usual 12% weekly water change), "golden" (which is to say brown) tridacna clam has gradually withdrawn its mantle. PO4 reads zero with Hach kit (and 0 NO3 with API kit) so I think that's the problem. In response, I've fed tank 3x more than usual, turned off PO4 reactor, and ceased vinegar dosing. Hoping to see tridacna back in full "golden" mode tomorrow.

OK, after I added a second GAC reactor yesterday, the Tridacna started to revive and today is back to normal. I really thought it was a goner 2 days ago and almost removed it from tank because mantel had almost totally withdrawn into the shell. Glad I hung in there.
