Not to nitpick....but in a sense gallon volume is not relevant in keeping this fish. It's more about the aquarium's square footage.
The surface area of sand bottom, live rock and even the surface area of macro algae is what matters. This is where pods reside & reproduce.
The volume of water contained in the vertical dimension is not a factor in expanding or maintains isopod' breeding environment, with all other factors like nutrient level maintenance for example, being equal.
For example a 33g frag tank has the same square footage as a 55g, 4 square feet
