Hey guys back from the Eastern Sierras where I almost got hit by lightning, stepped on a rattlesnake and oh yeah caught some fish and had a great time.

My Buddy emailed me the other day and said that he just bought a house and needs to move his tanks. He has one tank that has green star polyp all over the back and he offered me and the club any that we want for the special price of FREE!

I know that it isn't the sexiest piece buttttt... If anybody needs any let me know and I will get some for you. Not sure when I will pick it up yet but I think he needs to move by the end of the month.

BTW his tank is the reason I got back into reefeing and I continually try and get him to join us but he works late and lives in Novato. But I will keep trying.

Hope all is well with everyone and their finned and encrusting friends and I will see you at the next meeting. Looking forward to finally meeting Steve and seeing his setups....Craig.

Glad the lightning missed! As apparently did the rattlesnake.

Details on fishes caught please. Species, tackle, technique...

Let me know if we have to physically collect your Novato buddy for the meeting. With enough guys, some duct tape and a large trunk, we should have no problem. :D

Craig i almost stepped on a rattlesnake last weekdn too! A 4 footer!!! for any of you deer hunters in the club i have the best worst stroy for you....to sum it up.....i have gone out 5+ times this season and i finally got my chance on a 6 point buck (that is a big black tail) 60 yard shot in an opening so perfect...aimed squeezed the trigger....click....my semi auot didn't latch onto the bullet at the truck and now i put the next one int he chamber and the deer was gone....=(.. I still have nightmares of the gun not loading....anyways glad you had a good trip Craig and caught some fish.

Yeah we have rattlesnakes here but I didn't think they would be up there! I camped at about 5-6000 ft this guy was only about a 2 footer and he rattled at me as he was hiding under a rock.

I had fished a different spot earlier and had seen a few garter snakes swimming around and 1 I thought looked like a rattlesnake but I dismissed it as a small gopher. My buddy who can't hear to good said he had a bush rattle at him but he dismissed it as a seed pod. Guess we will have to be a little more careful.

Santarosasalt I will pm you when the polyp is ready you might get quite a bit as I haven't heard from anyone else. My buddy has a 120 so that is a lot of green star polyp. When I pm you let me know how much you want, Do you want some pulsing xenia too I will be culling a few soon.

Ken,
I was Flyfishing the whole time and the river was shallower than I thought it would be.(Duh late summer) Anyways I fished almost exclusively dry flies same with my buddy with the occasional wooly bugger. We caught all rainbows in the 10-14" range but one night I got lucky and caught a 17"brown just as the sun was setting. Amazingly it was caught on a size 16 light cahill. My fishing camera couldn't handle the altitude or something so it pooped out after the first day but to see this tiny fly in te big browns jaw was amazing. All fish were released to fight another day as we brought enough beer and food to last 2 weeks.( of course it didn't)
I will post photos later of some of the stuff we saw and a couple fish. All in all a great time and we are already planning for next year. On an non fishing note the night skies up there were the best I have ever seen the milky way was unbelievable. Might make me take the good camera camping next time for some long exposures.

O.K. just to make this a longer post of rambling I need to trim my toadstool it has grown a ton lately and threatens to shade everything. Anybody want to help as I have never done it. I can also bring it to Octobers meeting if anyone wants to do a demo?

See you soon...Craig.

I'm good on xenia. That stuff grows like weeds every couple of months I have to trim it back. Although recently I had a piece just completly melt on me don't know what happened. Anybody heard of this happening

Would Star Polyp work as a nutrient remover like macro algae?
Maybe I should also put some in the refugium. I know they are good at utilizing Nitrate but I'm not sure about absorbing other nutrients.
