Hey yall my name is Spc Watts, Nickolas and i am currently serving in the U.S. Army in Iraq. A bit about myself.. im 25 and i have had a few smaller SW aquariums in the past(12 gallon nano cube with good sucesses.. 75 with ok results but it was my first and i learned a lot of mistakes the hard way).. I am going to be commin home sometime in the late dec to early feb timeframe so i still have plenty of time to get my new build set up in my mind b4 i jump into it..

*THE IDEA* i currently have a wall build.. One of my first questions is my LFS SUCKS @ Fort Hood so ill be doing most of my shopping online(what is the best place to actully purchase my DT and sump online.. im thinking a 240 DT and a 180 sump.. but thats what my budget is allowing from glasscages.com.. and bigappleherp.com.. altho i have emailed both of them and their customer service SUCKS.. id rather support someone who is helpfull and willin to .. in a lack of better words.. earn their money) My first step is going to be the aquarium/sump and overflows and get them set up while i peice together the rest of this.. i know its going to be a long build but im in it for the long run.. Im hoping for a wall build but it could just turn into a stand/canapoy but who knows.. first step is get the aquarium/sump and overflows and work from there..

Ok next questions.. i have done a lot of reading and i want to go with T5 lighting.. ive read GOOD things about ATI(anyone have a good priced link to one of their sellers? *240 long is 96 inches and i have yet to see any that long so ill prolly do 2 48 inchers.. and ill do at least 6 bulbs and hopefully icecap and overdrive them for max output.. altho that leads into my next question. i have done a lot of reading about T5 and never found the answer about what "icecap" is and how to overdrive them once they are.. from what i understand its a way to keep the bulb cool so you can put more juice threw them and getting more light out of the same setup.. i know i want indiv refelectors to get max light out of the bulbs....

That should be good for starters and i appericate yalls time in reading this and helping me along in my journy into a beatiful healthy aquarium....

hey i am in afganistan right now and i used my money here for the same thing lol. i got a 240 gal tank from glasscages.com and it is built like a beast just really sloppy on the silicone i set it up in april when i went on R and R. only difference is mine is on a stand that i built. The demmentions are 60x36x25. With glasscages i didnt even bother emailing them i just called them direct and talked with a lady named debbie and she was really good she got me pics emailed to me and everything with that company you just have to get lucky enough to talk to the right person after that i just asked for debbie every time i didnt even bother with anyone else. the owners wife advoid her at all cost she is a Bi^%h enough said. I have T5s on my tank with MH also i am running two 48 inch fixtures. I have the TEK lights with 8 bulbs and the thing is awsome puts out so much light and the company sent me two fixtures on accident and told me not to worry about the other one it was free so lucked out on that one. I am going home from here in like a month or so thank god i hate it here 2nd deployment and the country is the same. The only thing that sucks giving you a heads up is having a bad *** 240 gallon tank at home and not being able to stock it or play with it. I have invested over $4000 into mine and it is addicting as hell good luck to you man and stay safe.

First, thanks for your service!

I would get involved with a club in the area. There are a lot of people looking to down size due to the less than stellar economy and rising energy costs. Buying used can save you a LOT of money and still get a quality tank or entire system.

i use to live in fort hood.
i walked into the local lfs. took one look at thier fish tanks and never returned., remove that store from your memory. =)

second of all. if you can be stop lossed i wouldnt set up a tank.
the first 30day field problem you have will kill your tank.

Just wanted to say thank you for serving and protecting our freedom. There are still people left who believe in you and what you fight for.

Another thank you from Ohio for your service, without brave young people like yourself we wouldn't be able to enjoy things like our aquariums. I don't have what I would call a decent LFS within an hour. The internet is your friend, you just have to plan ahead, and for the worst to avoid trips there!
