Grey Head Wrasse harassing Hawaiian Flame

Guys just added a male HFW and two females. I noticed my GHW harassing my male so I took him out of the main display and put him in my sump. I did this because the HFW cost too much and the GHW didn't. I am begining to miss the GHW in my tank. The day after I added the flame is when I noticed this. Did I overreact and needed to give them time to adjust or what?

Having never had either of these specific wrasses... But having a lot of others, take it for what its worth....

I think if it's that bad the one being harassed will bury itself. If it's to the point that it comes out and gets harassed til it buries itself again because of it, then its merciless and you should remove one. If the one being harassed doesn't care enough to just bury himself, then I would just keep an eye on it.

Further more since you already removed the aggressor, I'd give the flame a couple weeks to adjust and maybe try again?

how big is your tank i have owned 2 grey heads one in my past 180 it never bothered a single fish & i had flames with him very easy going fish. i now own another grey head about 5inches with a flame trio & about 30 other wrasses & he is like a puppy pays attention to no other fish. how bad of harrasing was he doing was he constantly chasing them

The method of introduction when mixing wrasses is VERY important, albeit a bit late now.

The best way is to use an acclimation box on new additions for several days and observe behavior and interaction of existing wrasses. It's not until any signs of aggression cease that it's safe to release the new guys.

You can try to re-introduce the Gray Head in this manner, but I would NOT just toss him back in; that likely won't change anything.

Cirrhilabrus do NOT bury in the substrate...

how big is your tank
And this is also an important question.

Guys thanks for the replies.

My tank is 150 gals. I bought my HFW and the two females from Inland Pacific Aquautics and they came in very healthy and eating. I never had any issues before mixing wrasses and although the GHW looks intimidating, I have never seen him harrass anyone. I would see he femals out and one time I saw the GHW chase the HF and this was on day 2. I just didn't want to take any chances on losing the HF due to me always wanting one.

So you think I could reintroduce the GHW? If so how? He wsa easy to catch becasue all I have to do is pput food into the net and he swims right into it.
