griss' Tank Upgrade Thread

Thanks for replying, needed information. Where did you get the live sand at Griss?
The live is all Caribsea’s “live sand. I watched for sales and bought from wherever, whenever I found it on sale. If I were going to buy real live sand, I’d go with either Tampa Bay Saltwater, KP Aquatics or Gulf Live Rock.

The 40 is gone. It was bittersweet as I’ve had that tank going since 2017 but, I got a bit of cash, and the buyer got a great deal.

When we realized they’d have to dismantle the stand because it was screwed into the studs and the legs were covering the screws they decided not to take it. Plus, it was just a 2x4 stand and it’s going to be in their family room so they decided they’d buy a commercial stand.

Now I’ve got to dismantle and dispose of the stand.

Oh yes, I had read that before but had forgotten, which I do more these days. 🤪 You have really had some big tanks! My biggest tank was a 125g but it was a fowlr. My biggest reef was a 90g and I liked the footprint except too high for me these days, which is why I went for the 75g.
lol, my long term memory is still awesome, short term…wait, what was I going to type?

New tank, Alk and Ca good but on the low side. Mg low so, I’m working on that first. Also, nitrate is 5 but phosphate is ZERO. Got some Brightwell Neo Phos to bring that up. Hopefully, balancing those out will help with the Cyano.

I’m surprised about the phosphate levels because I’ve been spoiling the fish food wise.

Sounds like you are on top of it. Hopefully the ugliest don't last too much longer. I know I don't enjoy looking at brown sand, haha!

Didn’t get my water change done. We’re exhausted. Over the past few years the pond went to poop. Plus, the crappy Home Depot tubing (overflow to waterfall) cracked over the winter.

We drained the pond, cleaned it out, used flex pvc to replumb. Next we’re going to install a new liner over the old one.

We have toads that love to breed in our pond so, we want to get it done soon.

Ponds are so great for mood and ambiance but they are a pain in the butt in climates that have cold and thawing! I got mine up and running but I simplified it a couple of years ago. Went from a stream between a 40g and 125g ponds to (2) 9g Lowe's overflows into the 125g. We still hear splashing water but fixing leaks is easier. Here is a pic I took a month ago when i got the overflows going. We have toads and frogs using ours which we enjoy.

Nice Dawn. We used to have a stream as well but, when we redid the pong last time we installed a waterfall instead. The stream was on a slope and we just could not keep the river rock in place.
