Group buy on Denitrators

**Edit - I read the group buy rules. A little confusing about individual ship group buys. Sorry if I'm breaking rules. I'm not affiliated with this product other than having one and getting another. I also did not benefit any more than anyone else. I purchased using the same supplied links here. If I broke a rule, I apologize in advance. Pretty sure this is within the rules though...

I worked out a great group buy rate on Aquaripure Denitrators with the owner of Aquaripure.com where he has offered about $80+ off per unit. If you thought about using a denitrator with your current skimmer, or just getting rid of a skimmer all together, this is the group buy to participate in. To top it off, the owner gave me a couple links that will set up any one that wants one, with their own shopping cart where you can complete the purchase on your own, and he will ship our orders individually. So you won't have to pay me first, and then make arrangements to pick yours up, none of that. Your order will go right to your door, and you don't even have to tell me you got one. I'm not sure what the RC board will do with the links, so if they don't work then get a hold of me and I'll find a way to get the link to you.

To be honest, this began as an attempt to try to get a free one for the Lutz aquarium, but that didn't work. In my attempt, the owner agreed to work out this deal, which I'll be utilizing as well. I purchased 2 units yesterday, one for myself and one for someone else. Some of you have probably heard me talk of these in the past. I've been running them for 2 years in the absence of a skimmer on my mixed reef with great results. I'll be adding a short review to this post.

Some benefits of a denitrator:

Denitrators do not strip beneficial elements/amino acids/etc from your water, like a skimmer does.
Great Nitrate removal.
Good phosphate removal.
Low low maintenance, almost none.
Very energy efficient, only uses one tiny pump.
Very space efficient, takes up virtually no space in your sump or tank.
Can be used to go skimmerless, or can be used together with a skimmer.

Description of how it works:

The denitrator itself is a sealed canister which sits somewhere outside of your tank. There is one tiny pump that pumps your water into the canister via 1/4 inch plastic tubing. Water runs through the canister, where it is biologically stripped of Nitrate/phosphate, then runs through 1/4 inch tubing back to your tank or sump. The flow is controlled by a ball valve on the return tubing (effluent) and should be kept at a rate of one or 2 drips per second. I might have to adjust this once a month or so on mine, if even. The only maintenance is feeding the bacteria that eat up the nitrates, which consists of injecting some carbon source (Vinegar or vodka) once a week. The vinegar is injected with a 10ml syringe into an injection port (one way valve) on the canister. I inject 4ml twice a week on mine which is double the recommendation. I double the standard dose due to my way overloaded tank which I'll get to in my review. Obviously for further information you can refer to the Aquaripure.com site.

My personal set up and review:

I set up my tank with the goal of being as low maintenance as possible, and as energy efficient as possible. I began using the small size aquaripure (rated for up to 55g) on my 72g I set up a little more than 2 years ago, pretty much right from the start. Since then I changed my glass to a 200g deep dimensions marineland tank, with a 20g frag tank and 55g sump plumbed in, for a total of about 270 gallons. This small size aquaripure has done great even since I upgraded to 270g worth of system over a year ago. The aquaripure is my main source of filtration. I do use a filter sock for mechanical filtration, but I haven't changed it in months. I run GFO and carbon in reactors as well, and a home made waterfall algae turf scrubber that I almost never clean. I dose 2 part to keep up with alk and Ca and barely ever do water changes but I do them. When I do it's usually about 25g at a time, which is almost nothing on this size system. If I had to guess I might say I do that every other week but in reality once a month is probably more accurate.

I have a ton of coral, last count about 50 different acros, all the popular monti's, birdsnests, stylos, several hammers, torches, frogspawns, acans, chalices, trumpets, zoas, pavonas, blastos, etc etc. Those gotta add to the bio load because I do spot feed a couple times a week. For fish I have 6 tangs, 5 leopard wrasses, 6 halecheorus wrasses, a blue jaw trigger, 2 clowns, 2 dottybacks, a possum wrasse, scotts wrasse, watchman goby, another wrasse and another tang in the frag tank, and probably a few more I'm forgetting. I used to keep nitrated at about 2ppm when I had about half this fish load, with the aquaripure and above maintenance regimen. I haven't measured in quite a while but I just did a few days ago, and the nitrates are at a whopping high of 12ppm and the po4 is at .21ppm. I do need to change GFO a couple times a month to keep up with po4, but my god, look at my bio load! That's a ton of fish! Even with those numbers, I have no algae issues or cyano and have not for quite some time. I do get some cyano in my sump fuge but nothing crazy. Coraline algae is my biggest enemy as of right now.

So due to that bio load, I'm going to add another size small aquaripure and just run them both. I have nothing but good to say about the company Aquaripure. I had one of the injection port valves go bad, and emailed the owner, who sent out a replacement no questions asked and no fee, over a year after buying the aquaripure. That, mixed with the great deal he has offered our club, is why I took the time to type this and offer it up to everyone.

Here is the response from the owner of Aquaripure, and the outline of the deal he offered:

Hello Dave,

I will give you 25% off any filters you get. I will go ahead and include the links to pay the Medium and Small in this email. Whoever orders can have it shipped to them directly or put in alternate billing and shipping addresses, it doesn't matter to me.

Also, skimmers are fine to use with the Aquaripure and they compliment each other well although a skimmer is not needed with the Aquaripure.

Medium (rated up to 130g) - 25% off (Regular price $289 + shipping) Group Price $216.75 + shipping

Small (rated up to 55g) - 25% off (Regular price $249 + shipping) Group Price $171.75 + shipping

Please let me know if I may be of further assistance.

So that said, I'm sure the guy would honor the 25% off any other sizes as well. Feel free to post any questions and I'll try to answer them or refer you to answers. If anyone is interested in another size I can inquire for you about the discount. As I described in my review, these things are under rated as my size small has been doing a good job on my 270g system. I just think another one will help get that last little bit of po4 down on my tank.

Is there a link for the large?

And believe me, i wasn't questioning your review. Its a great review, and i'm very interested in the product.

No worries. I wish I could talk a little bit about the science behind it but I really don't know much about whats inside. But I can tell you as well, I use one on my 125g fish only which is also a heavy bio load. If you checked out this guys videos, you might have seen one about a 10 day cycle. I did his exact experiment as it is in that video. And it worked perfectly. I believe it took 11 days for me to get through the cycle. But again that was a size small so a bit under rated too.

He didn't give me a discounted link for the large but I could ask for one if you like.

Also the links he gave me work out to about a 25% discount per unit, so you can do the math on the large to see if you want it.

I got mine on Monday. I set it up in 5 min. It's been running ever since. The instructions say to let it run for 4 days then add the first dose of a carbon source. So I will add the carbon source on Fri. My nitrates were around 15 before and extremely low phosphates. So I'm hoping with this baby it will help out to bring those numbers down even further. I feed very heavy and I run a lot of chemical filtration as well. I'm hoping with this addition I can cut back of the chemical filtration costs.

Have you changed the media yet? Expensive? Easy or pia? Would love the link to the Lrg model for my 200 gal.

That's the thing. You never change the media... If you open the reactor it will void the warranty. All you do is squirt in some carbon source like vodka or vinegar into the addition port with the syringe they give you. That's it!! You add the carbon source every week.

So basically, this is how you set it up:

Open box. Attach pump. Put pump in sump. Plug in pump. Adjust flow to desired drip rate for your size tank. Add carbon source every week. That's it....

I did mine in 5 min.

Gar, there are a bunch of videos etc on his site at aquaripure dot com. I'm sure you already looked there. I think if you know the basics of a denitrator you can kind of just research that, but this design is just maybe a little more user friendly. As far as I know there aren't exactly a lot of denitrators on the market, I think more or less the people that use them have just made their own. But I have seen threads here or there on RC about denitrators in general. Hope that helps.

Anyone that is local to me, is welcome to stop by and see my set up. If you see the amount of fish in my system with no skimmer on the tank, you'll get a feel for just how well these things function. Most of the time I look at my tank and can't help but think there just way too many fish. lol but I love it!

I'm thinking about adding one of these to my broodstock system and if it does well my grow out system when I complete it. You've got a lot going on in your tank with your turf scrubber and gfo and all that so I can't really use your tank as a comparison. I just want to see how much of a difference it makes on a more simple set up. I did check out the site but I was looking for some more info outside of their site. I guess I'm not a believer yet, lol.

Yup I do have a turf scrubber, but I've only cleaned it twice so I don't think its doing a whole lot. I kind of set it up, identified some problems with said scrubber, and never did anything about said problems. Hence my need for the aquaripure.

<-- This guy = Not good at maintenance! lol

Don't forget, the aquaripure I'm using is only rated for a 55g tank and I have about 270g probably a little less. Thats why I got a second aquaripure, hoping I'll reduce my need to use the gfo.
