Group Buy On ORA Clownfish

The black Ocellaris sounds neat. If its not too big, (I want a juvenile), I can pickup in Tustin. And hey I have a Prius also!

Let me know if that's for sure and I'll boot up the PayPal website tonight.

Thanks
Josh

Hey Josh, the ones we are getting are probably unsexed. The four I have from ORA don't even fight. I have all of them together in a tank 3 naked and 1 true perc. At night all of them sleep together, looks like they are sleeping one on top of the other.

Thanks Nicole.

My current clown was so mean to the other clown I got her with. I would hate to introduce a replacement clown and she is mean to it also.

I'll do some research on the specimens RB claimed were still available and contact him if I can afford it. No to look back through this thread for the prices.

Thanks
Josh

Hey Josh here are some pics of my true Perc x black Ocellaris pair. I've had them for about 8 months, bought them from a reefer that had them for three months. My female(true perc) is most likely wild caught and my black ocellaris was tank bred, don't think it came from ORA though.

Thanks. What is the difference between a black ocellaris and an onyx clown?

You can put me down for the black guy. I'll paypal you once we determine the dropoff or pickup plan.

They are different species. An Onyx clown is a true percula. To be called an Onyx, the black has to be filled between the white bars.

I sent you a pm.

Here's a pic of my female Onyx:

Cool, thanks.

I paypaled you the money. Since it comes direct from my checking and not a credit card or a prefilled paypal account i've been told it takes a few days.

Let me know how it goes.

Thanks
Josh

DAMN I wish my tank was up and running already.

Same species. Just a variant arent they???, some due to location(Soloman Islands)

Correct me if Im wrong. Thanks

Hey Sam you are correct they are a variant of a true percula. The first pair of Onyx I bought came in from Papua New Guinea, but I've heard of them coming in from the Solomon Islands. I don't think it has to do with location, it's caused by a recessive gene in the clownfish.

Once everyone has their clownfish and they are happy with the quality, I might organize another group buy. We had a great response, didn't know that many people liked clownfish, like I did. I'm trying to set up as many pairs as I can, I'm trying to breed them, not for profit though because there are a lot of reefers already breeding them, the market might be saturated with them in the future and people will ultimately have to lower their prices. I'm setting up tank bred x tank bred pairs and tank bred x wild caught pairs.

are the black ocellaris ALL black, or do they have some orange on them?

also, if they do have orange, is it true that the orange is mostly around the face/mouth area and becomes more progressively black with age?

Thats the reason I entered this hobby for the clownfish. I have a 60g RBTA Tank and have a pair of Soloman Islands True Percs that im trying to get to breed. Weird thing is that the female is so robust, unlike any clown Ive seen can pass as an adult maroon clown. Its Female SI True Perc x Tank Raised misbar rightside black or white<---Forgot?!!! dont connect SI<--Parents were wild SI clowns male.

The closest I have gotten to getting these to breed was the female cleaning a spot and eating like mad. Then something happened, I introduced a freakin damsel and it ruined everythin, it nearly killed the female. So I did what Drake does to all his ugly fish I flushed that sucker! The 110g Im setting up will be dedicated mainly for my RBTA's and these clowns no more aggresive fish.

Ill defiantley be in the next group buy.;)

I'm going to try and get a definite answer. I personally haven't seen ORA black ocellaris, the ones I have purchased have come from England. Sadly I lost them since they were an impulse buy and they picked something up from the dealers tank. Tank bred are more hardy, but when at the wholesaler I think they pick up diseases from wild caught clownfish, since the tanks are all plumbed together. I found some pictures of them when they were in QT. I think the ones we are getting are not a pitch black, but a dark brown like the pictures I'm posting. I lost one in QT, but finally when the other one was ready to be taken out, I mixed it with my Onyx pair (big mistake!). They ended up killing it. They bit it's tail off, causing it to die. You'll be able to tell it's a black ocellaris because the body will be darker and the snout will be orange.

You can't breed too many ocellaris clowns. Ocellaris are still the #1 wild caught fish -- demand FAR exceed the tank raised supply. If you want to breed them, go for it, just don't expect to get rich. ;)
