Group order for Live Rock!

Heres the deal I need only like 10 lbs and most places only ship 20 or more lbs, so anybody intrested in getting together a group order?

Does anybody know a good reliable place to order rock from?

Im open to suggestions to where we should order but here are a couple of ideas.

http://www.tampabaysaltwater.com/

http://www.reeferrocks.com/

http://www.reefscience.com/

Im in no hurry to get this together, maybe after labor day, id rather let people get in on the order and find out what everybody thinks of the place we intend to order from.

I know some of you need rock so lets save some money and get some nice rock for our tanks!
Here is your chance to get only a couple pounds of rock, jump on it!

Depending on the timing I may be interested. Still need more in my fuge and a small amount in the tank. Can put nice stuff in the tank and hand me downs to the fuge :)

I've bought from Tampa Bay 4 or 5 times in the past. Is loaded with hitchhickers, but the last three times that has included mantis shrimp. It was for a 55gal and I eventually caught them. Trying the same in my 200 wouldn't be as easy :) I could always put it in the fuge and watch it for awhile and then swap though.

I got base rock from reeferrocks and they were great, but haven't bought live from them. I won one of their monthly giveaways though :)

Kass and I split a livestock order from reefscience once. Much of it was pretty beat up, but I think they resolved it all. I think Kass still has a credit coming from that ephisode.

I am going to need 120 pounds - but am in no hurry to get it, havent even started my new 120 yet.

That rock from reef science looks awesome, its $5.75 a pound though plus shipping...

Yeah I supposedly still have $40 in credit from reef science. I never used it.
I got tampa rock many yrs ago to but have read recently about mantis being in it. Mine did'nt back then either.

Cool, seems there is an intrest! Just a couple of things to ponder, Who ever orders the most rock we could deliver it there to make it easier for them.
Even if your not ordering, your input on where to order from would be helpful.

Does anybody have conections to someone that works at any live rock vendors? It would be nice to keep in touch with where we were getting it from (updates on what rock is good at that time, pics of our order, group discounts?) Or even if you have dealt with them before, so we are not taking a shot in the dark.

Again like I said before, im in no hurry.

And when to order and delivery could be ajusted to accomidate everybody (or most) who is ordering.

While I only ordered base rock from them, reeferocks will take pictures of exactly what you will be getting if you ask. I would assume they would do the same with the live rock.

I have heard good things about hi-rock as well, I used to have the website, but can't seem to find it. I think spike recommended it once, perhapse he would grace us with a link.

oh, and I'd be interested as well. I'll tag along, I'd like to get some really nice rock for a neat little nano I've wanted to build.

I thought hirocks was just base rock. I got a small order from them through E-Bay a long time ago. If it's the same place, the url WAS www.hirocks.com but has been disabled. Checking in E-Bay, the same seller has also not listed anything for at least three months.

What about the place we just ordered from for the livestock order. should we drom him an email asking for a hi-res photo?

Florida cultured live rock?

Yeah, some better pictures may help. Their premium is only $3.50 a pound? Looks heavy on macros and light on everything else, but looks good for the price anyway, from the few pictures they have.

Well, depending on timing, I'll be in the market for probably 200 lbs+ (if I get all the tanks set up I'd like to, it'll be more like 300+), so there could be some good options for volume discounts somewhere if we're looking at 300-500 lbs. I'll look around and see what I can come up with as well.

If you guys are mostly interested in trying to keep it cheap and reasonable, this is all going in my two large sump troughs, so I'm fine with all the little odds and ends, and people can pick some of the nicer stuff for their display tanks. :D

Let me know before you order, if it ends up being under $4 per lb, I would get in for some rubble fuge rock. I would just take all the smaller pieces no one wanted. As long as its cheap.

Hey Bri

I'm in the boat as you. I also need about +/- 10 lbs of LR and some LS for my first nano tank (just purchased the 10 gal AGA today!). I am located outside of Neenah. The after labor day time frame would work out great; I am still researching what size Aqua Clear I need and what maker of tank heater I want.

Please keep me (us) informed of your plans

thanks

It was recom. to me by a guy on the nanotank.com forum. He also has a 10 gal setup and uses a model 110 as a refuse. What's your opinion.

Never had a nano so don't know, but have some old Whispers you could have for free once I put them together to see how many whole ones I have. Also have a Skilter 400 (remove the non-functional skimmer and you have an Aqua Clear) but that would be overkill for a 10 gallon.

Wait, looks like I was thinking Aqua Master.

In any case, PM me if I can put something together for you. We've kind off pulled this thread off topic.

The Skilter sounds interesting. The large 'box' may lend a good future refuse and the high GPH could remove the need for an additional power head? I have read of people using Aqua Clear 110's in nano.

I agree Whispers - Aqua Clear's seem to be pretty similar and I have used Wispers 15-20 years ago when they were the thing (at least as far as the lfs I frequented).
