Guess what I have!

Almost everyone has flatworms. They are an important part of the ecological puzzle in any tank. Problems with flatworms arise mostly from an imbalance of the ecosystem.

It has been suggested (Calfo) that too much silicate can cause explosions. I believe this is true. I find when the DI gets a little old more flatworms grow. Silicate is the hardest thing to get out of water and is the first thing that your DI leaches back in when it gets spent.
Also too much organic material (small particles, dissovled organics) will cause flatworms blooms as they also feed off it.
The suggestion of a sixline is good, also green chromis will sometimes help.

If your flow is too stagnant espacially on the sand bed this will cause a bloom. They don't like high flow.

Hermit crabs and Peppermint shrimp will also pick through and disturb the flatworms making it harder for them to grow.

Flatworm exit will kill most of them but almost never all. After treating is a good time to take corrective measures since the population will be low.

I hope this helps. The flatworms are just a 'symptom' not the source of the 'problem'.

Now Acro Flatoworms are a whole different issue. They are bad and you should strictly quaratine and dip any new SPS or coral from an SPS tank.
I think they aren't even real flatworms, i may be wrong on that though.

So, it has been a couple of days since treating the tank. I haven't seen any flatworms or redbugs so I think I am ok for now..

Thank you all for the input.

(pro coral cure for sure..!) and of course FWE..

Ummmm, ok, you dealt with the planaria for now. But how did you treat the red bugs. They dont die with fwe. The only thing that has worked with the rb is interceptor. And your ok with the planaria. If you get the real acro flatworms. Forget about it. Then you have problems. Oh, and whoever suggested dipping the coral in fw dip. If its a sps, anything more then 10 seconds is a wash for the acro. And even still, may die. THey are majorly stressed after the first second it takes weeks to to get back to even living not normal.
