I have to be honest, my head is dizzy trying to figure out the right way to start up a QT. Many conflicting directions. Any help would be appreciated!
In particular, I am setting up a permanent tank. I am currently stocking up, so will do a lot of QT startup, breakdown, repeat. My plan is to get it running, have it ready for new additions. Then once done stocking, will run it for emergency use.
Would i be correct to do this:
- Fill with new water (aged 24h)yes
- Put filter floss (seeded in DT) in HOB filter yes
- Heat to DT temp not required till last few days of qt to match parameters with DT before transfer
- Add something like microbacter7 daily to seed dont waste your money and time
- Add food every 3-4 days to feed bacteria once or twice a week
Watch for it to cycle, and when done, its ready to go?
yes ready after ammonia and nitrites hit 0
Should i be running charcoal media if no meds are needed, or leave that out entirely?
