- Run an air line outside to bring in fresh air. Can help lower pH if you have a well sealed house with high levels of CO2.

hey java-great job laying out all the nuts and bolts! in the end it will amount to much less confusion. i love that their product names are pretty descriptive and logical (thanks H&S!).

one itsy bitsy thing about the above quote. CO2 acts as an acid and as such will drive the pH down. in those well sealed "air tight" houses the problem tends to be accumulation of CO2 and LOW pH. running the airline (venturi intake line) out a window or just out to "fresh air" will help RAISE the pH back to "normal" levels. and it works! i'm sure you were just so excited about the skimmer arriving and you obviously had the right idea...sorry nitpicky i know.

ALSO...i'm a jr member of the H&S club with the insump 110-2000 (their lil guy). i have it on my quarantine/temp tank as we're in the process of moving. its a rock solid little skimmer! built like a tank is right!

I do own H&S 200 with 2x1260 pumps for my six months 200 gallon reef and IT ROCKS!! A cup full of black, thick and smelly liquid every 6 days.

I will never again trust Aqua-medic, AquaC or Red-sea. These where my previews skimmers and they are nothing compare to H&S.

One more satisfied customer....

I think the A200 2x1260 is the best skimmer I've ever used. I got the bigger one and I love it, but to be honest I have had some difficulties dialing it in. The 2x1260 was completely rock solid and idiot proof.

Ditto on the ozone question.

I have my second hand 200-1260 in route! :)

Can an aftermarket mod be preformed to make this a 200-2-1260?

Thanks,

Todd

Ozone is no problem just keep it under 50mg/hr. You would need the bigger necked collection cup to handle the amount of air that 2- 1260's would produce. It would boil out the top of your current Collection cup.

Todd - once you get it hooked up you will see you don't need any more performance than you're getting. Especially if it's just for a 92G tank. That skimmer will skim the pants off your system. Have fun with it and make sure to post pix!

Finsreef, is there a larger cup available aftermarket/part?

Flinger thanks, one problem, I'm currently switching over to a 215g Oceanic cube with a 40g refugium and about 35g in a sump.

So close to maxing out. But, I'll be running a LifeReef VS3 24" from one overflow and the H&S in the head of the Refugium.

I have a local guy who is very good at building skimmers etc that could help me do it right. Looks like it would be fairly easy.

Finnsreef, why doesn't H&S use the largest Ehiem 1262 instead of the 1260? Watts vs performance?

Will the 1260 needle wheel fit and function in the 1262?

Will post pics once all fired up! Sould be here tomorrow!!!!

Todd

I've running an A-200-1260 from www.emarine.ca in Toronto. I've got it on my 45g tank and it's awesome. (I'm in the process of upgrading)

My skimmer is an external, and right in my living room, so I did find that the air intake was noisy, so I put a wooden airstone in it, and that quieted it down a tonne. My tank is deadly quiet though, and I would like to make it quieter still. Any tricks out there? Besides encasing it - since I like to look at it :)

Hey JavaJaws, I noticed that your A150-F2001 has two PVC
bands around the body where the pumps contect. Is that an
option/upgrade? The pictures shown on FinsReef and H&S
website do not have them.

The a150 f2001 (external) skimmers come with those bands standard. They reinforce the coupling between the pump and the skimmer body.

Adobo

I am leaning toward purchasing an H&S but still have a few questions:

Do you think H&S feels the need to add extra support/braces because of thier use of extruded acrylic for the body?

The A200 has two pump configuration choices. What are the advantages/disadvantages of having two Aquabee pumps
versus one Ehiem if the total air intake in about the same and pricing is the same? What would your preference be?

Before I made my skimmer purchase, I went down the same road.... you know, why do deltec and h&s use extruded acrylic when I can get euro reef with cast acrylic? I own plenty of products that are made of extruded acrylic and can tell you that at least from an aesthetic point of view, cast acrylic looks better.

Now that I have an h&s, I can tell you that whatever acrylic they are using, it is not the same grade as the typical extruded acrylic you see here in the U.S. The acrylic on the skimmer body does not have the striations you typically see on extruded acrylic. Additionally, it does not have the imperfections and blemishes you would typically associate with extruded acrylic. Since I've never seen any real specs on this kind of plastic (nor would I understand what the specs mean), I can't really speak the strength of this plastic. All I can say is that I have an abundance in faith in the experience of h&s (and deltec for that matter) and therefore trust their judgement in the quality of the plastic they have chosen to use.

The fact that other brands of needle wheel skimmers do not use re-inforcements in high stress area does not indicate that they have stronger materials. To me, it indicates that the other manufacturers have not evolved far enough along to do the things that the more mature and more experienced manufacturers are doing. I have plenty of examples of cast acrylic being damaged through the course of normal handling. Not reinforcing high stress areas is just plain foolish if you ask me. Perhaps you can only learn so much from reverse engineering???

With regards to the a200, there is a difference between two aquabees vs. a single eheim. My dirty math shows that with a single eheim, you get about 15 lpm of air injection. With two aquabees, you get 17 lpm. I would ask Brian for guidance to see which is more optimal for your set up. Personally, I think either will make you perfectly happy.

One thing I would also suggest is you call Brian and talk with him directly. His service is only second to none.

The two aquabees are rated for 80 gallons more than the single 1260 Eheim. One benefit of having two aquabees is that if one stopped for whatever reason, the other would keep working away. So it would act like a backup. They are priced the same though. Though I'm happy with my 1260, now that I think of it, I kinda think the 2 aquabees are better.

Got mine in and it's GREAT!

I think the Ehiem is the same 1260 you can buy many places except it has the different impeller. To me the reliability of these pumps and being able to pick a standard one up easily makes the choice for me over the Aquabees.

Mine when crazy when I hooked it up. Started skimmer wetter than wet. Took off the whole assembly for effluent control even. But then it settled down after about 15 minutes. I had cleaned the pump with vinegar before hand and I know that can make a skimmer go a little crazy for a short time.

Glad to have it!

Well after debating to go with euroreef or H&S, I've decided on H&S. I don't want to deal with the inability to get parts of my skimmer does break for what ever reason as well as customer support issues. I've spoken w/ Brian and ordered me a A110-F2000 and can't wait until it arrives.

I hope I made the right decision. Currently am running a AquaC 180 and I'll let everyone know how it compares.

OK, Send me my H&S membership card. I just ordered a H&S A150 F2001 external from Fins. I even paid the extra money to get it here 2nd day air. If all goes well, should be up and running on my new tank by the end of the week!!!
