IME, any pump internal or external will raise your temp. From Aquabee to Eheim to Red Dragon. Every single skimmer I've owned would raise the tank temp. The worst was the Sedras that seemed to raise the temp almost 2 degrees per pump.

BTW Brian just sent me pix of my custom model, it looks awesome! Since its custom, I offered him to play with it to see if it could be a good mass production model. I had a 1x1260 external cut down several inches.

Shawn & Steve, did you get the skimmers figured out yet?

Fliger, I think I have it figured out... I can't wait to get my Dwyer RMA-22 flow meter so I can tweak the airflow...

my Aquabee pump on the same skimmer external and its not hot at all, not even warm when i touch it, is yours hot?

Took the pump out just now and it is indeed quite hot to touch. Did i get a faulty pump or what?.... The thing is that the foam production and skimmate i am getting is good.

I have not added any extra equipments into my system, just took out my useless skimmer and changed it to this h&s.

One more thing, i realise that i could mount the pump directly to the skimmer body without using the pvc elbow. Has anyone done that b4? Any improvement in the performance?

The pump should not be hot to the touch. What is your native voltage for your pump? I would remove the impeller and wash the pump out and reassemble and see if that takes care of the heat issue, some times the flapper on the output of the pump can be stuck and make the pump work harder than it should. Make sure that the flapper on the pressure side moves freely. How are you measuring temps in your tank?

The voltage here is 220/240v. Ok will take the pump out again later for a good wash.

I am using one of those ph/temp monitor in my sump at the last chamber of my sump. Skimmer is in the chamber b4 it. B4 installing the skimmer, i my water temperature is around 84 degrees. Right now the water temp is 85.5 degrees.

Is is possible that i purchace an off the shelf aquabee pump and transfer the impeller over?

Thanks for all the help finsreef even though i didnt purchase it from you, really appreciated it.

did anyone else have problems with the output fittings. Mine are metric and I could not find parts to plumb it in. Brian at fins was great and is sending me a new "t" part to fix the issue. Did anyone else have this problem?

Also I assume everyone glues the bottom of that "t" on once the skimmer is in place or it would leak?

Rickster,
It is possible to use an off the shelf aquabee, but you will need to make sure to use the H&S output and impeller cover.

imbuggin,
Unfortunately your conversion was installed backwards. You are the only one that I have had a report of being wrong at this time. I send a new adapter to you and hope this takes care of the issue. Most customers glue the elbow once they get the skimmer in installed. I do have some that just use pvc tape, but that can cause a slow leak over time. The most secure is to glue it when the skimmer is in it's permanent position.

thanks again

thanks again

Brian,

Thanks again for everything. I really appreciate you taking care of the issue. When I spoke with you on the phone yesterday it was after 2 very hard days of travel and layovers. You were the first great customer service I had in days. Sorry if I sounded aggravated, it was just the travel rage!! your service has been excellent!

I got my Dwyer RMA-22 meter yesterday... When I attached it to the skimmer I was hitting about 13-15 on the meter and that was with the "clamp" about 25% closed over the air hose... If I removed the clamp it still showed about 13-15 and as I closed the clamp more and more the meter would drop... The return drain for the skimmer is not submerged underwater. I am feeding the skimmer via a MAG 2 (250gph) with Ã"šÃ‚¾Ã¢â"šÂ¬Ã‚ tubing for now with the barb fitting attached to the skimmer intake... I think I read in this thread where another member was getting back pressure due to the feed pump...

So, how many people would put an A200-2x1260 on a 180 tank?

Am I crazy?

I would. I want one for my 125:lol:

Jim

I'm so pathetic that I put one on my 72 bowfront. I figured it'd be the perfect reason to HAVE to upgrade, and soon! :D
