I have read most of the posts but still confused... as there are too many posts 
Could someone please summarize what are the best steps to set up a 150 external in order to give the best performance.
I have been using it together with my old skimmer - Aqua medic multi-SL for 2 months, i however found that it gives better skimate than the H&S!!!!!!!!!??????

How are you feeding your 150? When I first got mine, I was feeding it with a MJ. Once I got off my lazy butt and plumbed it directly to one of my drain lines, it rocks.
I slightly modified my plumbing from the drawing that UCanDoIt, who's a wonderful and tremendous resource BTW. Instead of a "T" I used a "Y" with a gate valve right after on the line running to the 150. Dropped the lines down to meet the size of the connector to the skimmer.
Then just follow the instructions from the link. Adjust the wedge pipe so the water is at the bottom edge of the bayonet connection between the collection cup and skimmer body. I fiddled with the air valve a bit and haven't had to make any adjustments to anything for a few months now.
My wife and I are heading to Nassau in a few weeks so I was showing my step-daughter how to empty the skimmer cup the other day. When she took the lid off the skimmer cup, she was about ready to spew it stunk so bad. :thumbsup: :thumbsup:

I dont see why you would need more air, unless the skimmer is not matched properly. I wont speak for others, but I have my Eheims choked back a little.
What H&S skimmer do you have??
