thanks for the tips AJ,
I'll order an air meter (i've read the entire thread, and remember seeing a link)
I've tried cleaning and soaking the impellers and pump parts in vinegar, and I have even replaced the ceramic shafts a month ago because they were broken and didn't go all the way through the impeller.
Right now, I am dumping the overflow water in to a filter bag, i'll try removing the fbag for a couple weeks and see if that makes a difference.

thanks again

I'm considering putting ozone through my new A200-1260. who of you out there are doing so? How are you handling ozone gassing out of the unit?

i am running 10mg of ozone through a tee i bought from USplastics.com its a PVDF tee but I am unsure of the exact size. As far as gasing out of the unit, I smell absolutely NO ozone being released from the skimmer.

Conceyted: show pics or links pleeeeeeeeeeease, i'm trying to get my A150 setup with ozone and I want to do it right.

Hope this helps. Snapped some quick pictures.

You don't want to do any work, do you? ;-) No worries, I have you covered. http://www.usplastic.com/catalog/pr...=usplastic&category_name=6915&product_id=9020

Like I said, I have no idea what size I bought, but I would think it is at the most 1/4" INSIDE Diameter. They aren't very expensive so I would suggest ordering a few different sizes and letting us know the best size to use.

PS: Just pulled up my order history. The one I used is Part No. 64461 Natural PVDF. It is 1/4" ID. A standard size air hose will not fit over this fitting without significant stretching. As you can see my ozone tubing (the black tubing) is actually stretched out to fit over the fitting. It takes some heating up with hot water and a lot of force to accomplish this.

I am about to join the H&S family but I have a dilema on choosing an intenal versus external. I have seen an internal with a 10" reactions chamber. Has anyone seen this as the H&S website does list it. I have a 240 gal mix reef and wanted to ensure I get the best for this tank. The external has an 8" reaction chamber. Both models has 2 x eheim 1260 pumps. Basically I wanted to find out which is the better one the short 10" or the the 8" external. Does anyone know how to calculate skimmer volume and reaction time?

Thanks

I have an in sump 200-1260 and I love it. Its very nice to have it contained within the sump and not worry about overflowing out of the tank. It also does a fantastic job skimming of course!

BPS, H&S also has a A250 2x1260 just not listed on the website I had to call Brian at Finsreef to order one. If I were to choose I would go with the external I love my A200 3xF2001 because of its plug and play ability I never mess with it so thats why I ordered a A250 2x1260 and getting rid of my BM250.

How much heat do the 1260 pumps add to water. I would need 3 pumps for 500+ gallon system. If external how noisy are they. What difference between 1260 and 1262 pump euro-reef uses?

Just as an FYI to those thinking about H&S External skimmers (or any other re-circ skimmer for that matter)...

You really shouldnt move the skimmer around with the re-circ pump attached to the body. You might have an accident like this:

H_S1.jpg

The unions connecting the pump to the body of the skimmer broke off.

The acrylic was not damaged, only the pvc where the reinforcing bands were glued to the unions.

Eric @ FinsReef was awesome and immediately offered help and suggestions to repair it....I wound up using PVC glue to re-attach the Unions to the Reinforcing bands....worked perfectly with only a slight visible seam on the top union.

Be careful folks....its just not worth the 20 minute four letter word tirade....

This is why ER says they use Uniseals to mount recirc pumps. Protection from this type of accident and vibration isolation. I've seen similar posts of pumps broken off Deltec skimmers.

The annoying part was that I had just told myself to be careful because I didnt want to break it.

Its working flawlessly now.

I have a ER CS6-2 in my 58 gallon tank. The neck comes apart differently and I was holding the H&S by the neck...it seperated and I was left holding the neck/collection cup while the body crashed down on my basement's cement floor. The impact snapped off the unions.

Nobody's fault but my own, and I dont think anyone makes a skimmer designed to take a 4 foot drop to a cement floor w/o damage.

IIRC, Uniseals are less expensive than PVC unions. Granted comparing my H&S to my ER isnt fair, (ER isnt a re-circ) the build quality isnt anywhere near the same. IMO, the H&S is a much better built product, and better thought out.

Had this happened to my ER skimmer, I'd most likely be out the entire skimmer since the acrylic itself would have cracked where the pump is hot welded in place. With the H&S, the seams where the unions met the reinforcing bands are all that were damaged, allowing me to repair the skimmer.

I was referring to a ER recir skimmer (RC series).

Glad you were able to get the skimmer fixed. That would have a real bummer if he damage was not repairable!

Eric @ Fins Reef stated he would order another skimmer body for me for about $250 IIRC, if needed. That was a huge relief since I thought I was gonna have to order a whole new skimmer!

Cant say enough about Eric and the rest of the crew at Fins Reef....they were definately supportive and helpful...and they responded fast...no waiting around for a few days for them to get back with me..

I replaced my ER12-2RC with an H&S A250 because the uniseals leaked after 5 or 6 years of use. Would have been fine in a sump, but I ran mine externally. The fact that my H&S outperforms the ER is an unexpected, and quite pleasant outcome,

New RC ER's also use Eheim pumps and are a substantial improvement over the old models which had very underpowered Sedra pumps. You made a great choice with the H&S and I dont doubt you would have been equally impressed with a the performance of a new generation ER skimmer as well. They have also changed the Uniseals to a better type that dont leak over time (so they say).

sjm; yes, I've heard, and believe that there have been significant improvements in the ER, although I felt mine performed well. My 200 gal reef is sitting on an Oceanic stand that has some particle board structure. I don't want to find out the hard way whether their new uniseals are watertight! Since their customers are all registered with them, I'm a little disappointed that they knew of the flaw and did not inform their customers. Water leaks can have huge financial implications. I was fortunate enough to be present and aware when mine leaked, and avoided the consequences.

I just traded my Mr-6R which I loved btw.... for a 200x3-F2001. I'm running it without the air valves and must admit I am impressed. I like a wet skimmate and this is pulling pretty close to what my beckett was pulling at 20% the power consumption.

I think I made a good deal! :D
