i prob caused it because i have been tweaking ca,alk,mg (actually took ca to 500 by accident) over the past two weeks and just moved from t-5s to mh - i run the mh 11 hrs a day - still......

maybe just thin it out a bit - I had several nice bushes of it

however http://reefcentral.com/forums/showthread.php?s=&threadid=676691 does advise that halimeda can crash - i learned after the fact

geez,
maybe I will get rid of my halimeda. What was your lighting schedule over the halimeda?

For all those running the external models. How do you go about cleaning the pump(s).

More specifically:
How do you drain the water out so you can disconnect the unions?

They need to incorporate a drain valve like the ER models have.

what should the optimum air intake be on my a110 and where can I get one of those meters to measure it?

From Brian: The airflow gauge I use is the Dwyer RMA-22. It will read up to 20lpm.

Hi

Im about 90% decided on getting a H & S (the model with dual Eheim pumps rated for 55o gallons). I've read alot of positive feedback on this thread but what i'd really like to know is if anyone is disatisfied or has any complaints about their H & S skimmer.

Anyone with A110 external run into problems with skimmate foam being pushed up thru the lid holes? No foam in bottom of cup Because it hits the side of cup and then moves upward.
I've only had my setup running for 3 weeks now. Intake to PS is fed by gravity (wide open 3/4" ball valve) and 1/2 hose. flow out of skimmer is wide open and exits thru 1" pvc that is under the sump water level by 1/2". Usually takes hours for foam to build up near lid. It actually lifted the lid slightly once and had foam pushing out of the side.
My bio-load is not much at all.

i have one - i'll sell you 75% of their price used once - i recommend that its a waste of time and you will use it once, be mystified on why this or that and not use it anymore - based on my experience Brians advice to turn down air a little and just observe bubble production and you will soon have the instinct on any further adjustments. If you read past threads you will see that, according to the gauge air wide open gave the highest air flow which was not explainable - this was the case for me - I think adjusting water flow into the skimmer as well as bubble level are the two parameters to focus on - jmo based on jme

You'll have to contact Brian as to where your numbers should be.

question re noise

question re noise

noise
we are all trying to minimize noise - I finally made a decent muffler for the air intake and use carbon in it to keep the skimmer air nice and clean.

now the only noise I think about is the ehiem's - the noise as I envision it is the needle impeller chopping up bubbles and this may be normal -

I just want to know please - is the noise around your ehiem silent or do you get the same noise - its hard to describe but comes from between the ehiem's connection to the skimmer - not motor noise but water and air

I can guarantee the noise is not bubbles being chopped. I have a Bubble King and it is literally silent, even though it chops up 2500 LPH of air. The noise must be coming from some other part of the Eheim.

Re: Re: question re noise

the bubble king as I understand it is just that - the king - maybe it has design to eliminate this - I ned answers from fellow H&S users - but thanks

I have the 200 dual AquaBee pump model and must say this is an awesome skimmer. I had traded the 110 model in for this one. Both skimmers are beautifully built. They work extremely well and CONSISTENTLY so. How you dial it up, wet/dry, is up to you. This is hands down the best skimmer I've ever owned.

The only complaint I have is with the guy who sells them, Brian at Finsreef. He is too nice and knowledgable. He is making everyone at the other LFS's look bad.

I am looking at getting the external 200-1260. I need to know what the height of the overflow pipe is.(from base to bottom of pipe). Just want to see if I will need to raise the skimmer up.

Thanks
Tony
