Hi guys, I should be getting my H & S, 200-2x-1260 this week, and I had a question about weather or not I can gravity feed the water intake from my overflow. My idea was to have a valve on the pipe entering the skimmer. A guy at my local LFS is telling me not to because the air that comes down the standpipe might affect the skimmers performance. Is this true ?

how did you guys hook up the airflow meter to the intake tube of the venturi? It has female threaded inlets, what adapter(s) do i need?

Go for it. I don't own an H&S, but I know you can do it. It do it with my NW skimmer and several others do it with theirs.

i believe brian at finsreef says that it the reslts are not good enough, consistent - something to that effect if you keep goingg up this thread i think its addressed

scarletknight06,

i'm not sure about ozone, but i spoke with brian at www.finsreef.com and he told me i would have better result if i fed the skimmer with a small feed pump instead of gravity feed.

Interests: reefing

i spoke with him also but he didnt recommend one way or the other. Just from reading things anthony calfo has written i would like to try gravity feeding it from the overflow.

Current Tanks: 40g display, 15g sump, poseidon ps3 on a closed loop with OM squirt, H&S a110 skimmer, 2x175's

bump for my previous question about how to hook up my air flow meter.

Also, do anyone else find that they have to pull the pump off about every 2 weeks and let it run in vinegar water and let the venturi suck in vinegar water too. Mine seems to get slightly clogged with something after about 2 weeks, limiting air intake, and I would assume its from dosing so much kalk. Will this problem go away once I get my calc reactor setup?

JNB, for the noise sounds coming from your pump,
If it is just the sound of the bubbles being chopped up, then there is not much a way that I know to silence. You could try to pack tape some filter loss aroung the outside of the venturi piping up to the pump impeller cover and see if that helps. The material thickness is not as much as a BK, therefore more air noise is transferred. LMK if that helped.

Scarlet,
What is your Alk level in your tank.
When you clean your pump, make sure to remove the impeller from the pump, and seperate the shaft from the impeller and soak in vinager. If you are not, then you are not getting the calcium buildup off the shaft. The Aquabee's are made to tight tolerances and just soaking the whole impeller on shaft does not clean it completely. Also run a pipe cleaner down the inside of the impeller to clean any debris.

As far as gravity feeding, if you can get the feed to not surge, or dump large bubbles into the skimmer body it will work, but if it not it will decrease it's performance.

If I missed anything LMK,

HTH,
Brian

Brian,
my alk is 7.4. I always take the impeller out of the shaft to see if there is any buildup but there is none.

Can you show a pic of how you hooked up the air flow meter up, aka the back of the meter.

i know, which is why theres a link to the selling forum. i figured someone on this thread would want it. if its a problem, mods please delete.

Jesus, I just want to know if everyone else has this same sound -

Nick,
I do have some customers who have media rooms and they are very sensitive to sounds. Different people hear different pitchs. I thought that might of been your application, and you was looking to furthur silence your system.
On the normal level, there is some bubble chopping sounds coming form the impeller housing and venturi intake. It should not be a metallic sound, as in metal to metal kind of sound or a ting type sound, but some whoosing or grumbling sounds are typical. The level of the sound is dependent on the background noise or the application it is in.

thanks - I believe your description is the sound I have so it is normal - its not metal to metal.. take care.

is it possible to put a 1260 eheim pump on a h&s 150 model

cuz this aquabee 38 w dosent seem to produce alot of bubbles compared to a sedra 5000

jony5 - [welcome]

An aquabee not beating a sedra 5000? Are you sure the venturi isn't plugged? Is it a new skimmer? How high is the water level?

You need to give us some more information!

i set the water where the riser tube begins
i tried plugin a sedra 5000 in it and there wa slike a huge difference the cylinder was full of bubbles

i cleaned both

the sedra 5000 pump is soo much heavier and seems to throw alot more water but both pump say 500 gph thats weird

the aquabee is so light
