He started as a dealer for saltwateranimals and all the things you need ( he build my tank about 15 years ago)

And he sold deltec skimmers and pumps and so

Than he started with his own skimmers.

howdy,

I've just bought 2 hs skimmers for my tanks. An a110-f2000 and a 200-2x1260 insump. I was wondering what the recommended water level should be for these skimmers respectively? They will both be in sumps. Both water levels will be constant.

I'd like to put the a110-f2000 in a partition 12inches high and the sme for the 2x1260. Should I go with lower water levels? Will this higher water level hurt the performance of these skimmers?

Casshern, Brian at Finsreef can give you the exact answer, but I'll take a stab. I owned a 150-F2001 which is the same height as the a110-F2000. I think the max water level is approximately 8". Since you have the "a" model you'll have to feed it with a separated pump or from the overflow return (I'm sure you know that). My 200-1260 is the same height as your 200-2x1260 and the max level is approximately 11.5". I'd give Brian a call to make sure.

I stand corrected. I seem to have mixed up my memory pathways a bit. I did a search as I know I remember reading in the past that Deltec and H&S were somehow related. After searching again, I now remember it is not that they were the same company but that they bothed played similar roles in the invention of the first needlewheel. Sorry I was way off on this one. I would like to have all of my flow go through the skimmer, thus the return pump will dictate the amount of gallons going through my skimmer. I like a low flow sump. I dont like the idea of processing that protein rich overflow water back into the tank.

I have a Eheim 1262 on my 120 - nice pumps - but how does your sump-return pump play into asking about the skimmers feed pump - if I had a return pump that circulated 600 on a 300 gallon tank - I might step up the pump feeding the skimmer - I use a dialed back Eheim 1250 for the skimmer (y's off to a carbon two little fishys phosban reactor) - just throwing out ideas.....

Can anybody post a pic of an A150-F2001 in action. I want to upgrade my skimmer and this model is one of 3 choices I have in mind. Also will it be sufficient for a 90g tank? 85g net with sump.

Go back to page 1 of this thread. There's a pic of an A150-F2001 in action there. This skimmer would easily skimmer twice the capacity you are planning on. Hope this helps, Geary

Here is a pic from i2ik a few pages back. This is one of the best deals out there for $650, considering the comparable Deltec costs almost $200 more.

Thanks for the pic. My other choice is a Deltec apf600. I was just looking at thier website and it only has a 5" diameter body. It doesnt have the tappered neck which I thought was kinda important to me. I was wondering though, the Deltec draws 21 watts and air intake of 500lph. H&S is 38w. I thought both where the same pump? Does the H&S draw more air? Will this skimmer do well with zeo? Third choice is an ER RC180

Duce, I was in the same situation as you last week. I was looking at the apf600 and the H&S for my 50 gallon reef. I already have an ER on my 125 gallon FOWLR and it works great IME, but lately it seems like I'm the only one. So for my smaller reef, I decided to try something different. I was looking at the Deltec but the price was a bit high, and then I found out it would'nt fit, so I went with the H&S. I'd been looking at it for a while I know I made the right choice. The only reason I did'nt go with the ER RC180 was because I've heard such great things about the H&S skimmers and the price is so close, I just went for it.

problems with A-110

problems with A-110

Would like to get some feedback from some A-110 users.

Problem:
Cup fills with dark foam which clogs the air escape routes causing it to skim even dryer. Then it oozes thru the holes in the lid until the cup seems pressurized. This causes the water level inside skimmer to drop compounding the problem.
All this started about 2 months ago. Before, it skimmed dry but could still fill the cup with wet "nasty" before emptying.

Tank:90g lightly stocked / 30g sump
Salinity 1.023
Nitrate 0
temp 77

I rigged the cup drain with 1/2 hose thinking this would allow pressure to force foam down to overflow container. It helps.
The drain is 1" or so above bottom of cup to keep some liquid in cup.

I'm stumped.
Flow thru skimmer is fed from overflow @ around 70gph
Valve is half to 3/4 closed. Doesn't seem to change between the two. Skimmer was fully disassembled and cleaned 2 weeks ago and everything was in order.

I don't want to switch clubs! I like my H&S

The only time I've ever see a skimmer do that is when I put one in a vat of curing live rock. Lots of dying organic matter can generate dark, dry foam. The dark foam like makes me think that's something's going on in your tank. Have you: introduced any additives, changed your feeding routine, noticed any dead snails or other critters, added new live rock? What about your source water? I just don't see a skimmer doing that unless there's something in the water. I'm sure there are other possibilites, but I can't imagine what.

looks like you've got some really dirty water!
I would raise your salinity also, skimmers operate better at SG's closer to 1.027

It will make any skimmate look like the best you ever saw.

Nitrate still 0 (just retested)
Water seems clean & clear.
Tank is lightly stocked.
40 lbs of live rock (45 more curing in a brute as I write)
4 sm. fish
6 snails
4 crabs
2 shrimp
All accounted for
Polyps never looked better.
pods production is great
Only change in feeding is the addition of selcon now an then.
Tanks been running since oct. The tank never suffered from new tank syndrome. I moved some rock, sand, water and filter elements from my other tank to jump start it.

Water change is 20g every 2-3 weeks. Water is mixed from a combo of DI and carbon block.
I did switch from 'instant ocean' to 'oceanic' about 2 months ago.
Hmmm.

I'll raise the salinity a bit over the next week or so.
Maybe that will help.

Thanks for the info. And thanks for the reply on the other thread too. So I think I narrowed my choice down to 2 skimmers. I will likely go with the H&S but I still have a few weeks to think and research.

i just started my 187g tank this last weekend (friday night). i have a a200-1260 plumbed from one of my overflows. i am using all base rock from reeferrocks that i cleaned really well before setup. my salinity is at 1.025 using IO. i got a little production out of the skimmer right away but now i am getting nothing, zero, zilch. i wouldn't have thought the tank would be that sterile right away. is this possible? i figured there would be something on the rocks. i'll try to post pics tonight when i get home from work.

Well H&S finally has a forum! Its tucked at the bottom and I didn't even see it, not sure why its not alphabetized. I'm running off for several days but will post some pictures of my H&S skimmers when I get back. Hopefully my new one will be ready in the next few weeks.

MH - post some pix and maybe we can help. I have found that on all recirculating NW skimmers the neck needs to be cleaned frequently. I clean mine at least once a week.

well here is a couple pics of what it did in the first couple hours of starting the system up

here is what it has done since

here is what my rock looks like. remember it is all base rock and the only thing i have seen come out of it so far is sand. i just threw in a scallop (didn't have any shrimp in the freezer) to start the ammonia cycle. hopefully i will start seeing some production from that thing rotting in the tank.
