OK. I'm sold on the Aquabee. It just Whomps the Sedra pumps.

I've had bad experiences with Needlewheels in the past. Now I'm beginning to think I had bad experiences with Sedras in the past!

Fliger, I've had both external and internal models of these skimmers, and in my opinion; there's just not that much difference in performance... maybe a slight edge to the recirculating (external) version.

Posted this over at Fin's area, but I figured here wouldn't hurt as well:
I've got my in-sump A110-F2000 dropped into my sump and propped up a bit on some CD jewel cases, just so that the pumps intake is closer to the drain pipe from the display.
I have to close the output nearly all the way, and I'm beginning to wonder if it's not "deep" enough. It's sitting in 7" of water. Whats the "ideal" water depth I should be shooting for?

so do you have the a110 or the 110? the a110 is external and the water depth shouldnt matter too much. the 110 is internal and the water depth does matter i think.
hmmmm.....I would think that 7" of water would be enough, maybe take it off those jewel cases though, deeper would probably be better. did you add any silicone to the gaskets? that can also kill the foam.

on the aquabee pump you can take it apart and add a needle wheel?
I was looking up the wattage on the aquabee and it is effiecent, I was thnking to get a a150 or 150. THis is going to be used on a 120gal. I don't have a budget for a chiller in NY we have pretty hot summers and my planted tank gets to around 82F degrees.

Two things you want to NOT skimp on, lighting and skimmer. Buy it right the first time and you don't waste money int he long run by upgrading or switching later because of poor performance or a model too small to handle your needs.

OK. You asked for pictures, pictures you shall get. H&S 110-F2000. 90G Display, mostly softies, lightly stocked with fish & inverts, single overflow to 40G sump (sump is filled about half way, drain goes to an empty area where the skimmer is, to the left of it is about 30# of LR, then chaeto & return pump. No chambers.)

It's sitting as close as I can get it to the drain, the sump is un-chambered. It's skimming fairly wet right now. It's sitting in 8" of water, and the water level is controlled by a float switch. I cleaned it about 3 hours ago and fed right after. The pump is sitting on a single jewel case because it seems to push itself off otherwise. The one case angles it ever so slightly and solves that problem.
So, do things look right to you guys?
