Mine a200 -1260 has overflowed .......as a matter of fact both my g-3 and a200 1260 began to overflow at the same time while feeing both tanks the same food. Prolly 10 mins after feeding they both start to produce supper wet skim.

However it never overflows on its own only when I feed PE mysiss do I need to open the wedge valve to keep it from filling up .

Good to know, thank you.

My ASM will sometimes do it on its own. Drives me nuts. What's worse is the layout of my sump has the cup near the lip of my sump so this last time it went nuts it dumped about a gallon of water on my hardwood floors. Wife non too happy!

The exact reason I got the buyoff on a new skimmer.

here is my H&S broken in. first week i ran it pretty dry. I emptied it out sunday with a little bit less skimmate than shown above. I tuned it to run a bit wetter (still dry) and as you can see its kicking ***. This is less than 4 days of skimmate. Over .5 gallons of it. I love this thing! And the best part is you set it and forget it.

FWIW, day 3 and no change. I just added 2 small bags of carbon, 1 in the overflow, and 1 in the sump chamber with the feed pump. I figure it can't hurt even though I do already run carbon in a Phosban Reactor.

Well, I've been researching for the past few weeks and finally made the plunge and purchased a A150-F2001 Skimmer so looks like I'm now a card carrying member of the H&S Skimmer club now.

Over the last 3 years I went from a seaclone 100, to a CSS 65 to a the H&S skimmer. I think I finally made the *right* choice.

I'm estatic. I've been breaking it in and the bubbles are crazy. I can't wait to get it hooked up to the tank.

Oh, BTW, if you hear a cheering noise coming from the north of you, thats me. The skimmer kicked back in.

I wonder if the extra carbon directly where the bad stuff must have been coming from did the trick. I mean it hasn't even been 2 hours!

awesome man glad to hear it

Is there anything special I need to know about these skimmers or just plug it in, set it and go?

For the extenal one, what's the best feed pump to use?

They really are just plug and go.

As for feed pump, you want something that will supply ~1.5x your system volume per hour. I went with a GenX 1500 because it's adjustable. I have it turned down to about 170GPH, but if and when I go bigger I can crank it up.

Prior to that I was using a Maxijet 900.

Carbon cuts back my skimmer production by 50%. so you know.

I have used 2 and they both were plug and play .

A good feed rate is 1-3x tank volume IME . I also run my feed fromt he overflow works very well.

True, but that just means it's doing it's job. I'll remove the bags once everything is stable again, but I like to run it anyhow. Cuts down on the fish smell in my apt.

When I first got mine, I used a mj1200. Finally got around to feeding it directly from one of my drain lines. Much happier with that and if possible, I would go that route.

If you look in the finsreef/h&s forum u will find u-can-do-it's my new a200-1260 thread . There are plenty of pics in it that show how we run it off the overflow.

IME there was a big difference between pump feed skimate and overflow feed skim.

Run if from the overflow IMO. If you look at my setup pics above you will see how to do it. Its pretty straight forward.

Thanks for the info. I'll have to draw up my plumbing so I can visualize where I could T off of it. The problem being that my two drains feed in to one larger PVC so it might be difficult for me to get the water feed when it is pressurized.

actually its easy. just ballvalve the big endingpipe of the two drains and t before it. that way you are having it build up pressure in the pipe and exit at the t

Here is my current drain:

IMG_1120.jpg

The rigid pipe coming from the left is from the overflow, it meets with the drain on the right in a larger T that is visable. Both together dump in to the skimmer section of the sump. I could probably somehow T off the overflow from the left, I just don’t think I could T off after both meet.

Obviously with the large footprint of the H&S I would have to rip out those baffles since that chamber is only about 14”.
