had a clown loss :(

so i just got home and noticed my smaller clown stuck on my koralia, i pushed him off and he just floated to the bottom :( im saddened by this loss, i wanted a pair of clowns, i have one clown in the tank now cause i had two, the remaining one was the larger one, they were together in the tank for about 3 months, now i want to add another clown obviously but what are my chances of having a happy tank with the new clown?

What kind of clownfish? I'm assuming the pair were oscellaris? If so, you can go ahead and add another assuming your tank parameters are stable & your tank didn't spike from the dead fish. If it is maroons, tomatoes, or clarkiis then its going to be a bit more complicated.

yeah they are oscellaris, im going to be checking my parameters to make sure there was no sudden spike before adding another, thanks for the reply! i appreciate it!

No problem - and like I said as long as nitrates, phospates, salanity, etc. is within ideal range you should be fine adding another clown.

tested my ammonia 0ppm, nitrates 0ppm, nitrites 0ppm, phosphates are at a little less then .25 ( i am running a phosban reactor for about 2 weeks now) my salinity is at 1.023, i have it a bit low because i have a few corals in it(2 ricordias and 1 mushroom) i also have a arrow crab, a cleaner shrimp, and the normal hermits and snails

the one that died was sensative because when i would do a water change or if i would clean the glass he would freak and go to the bottom corner every single time, yesterday i decided to scrub my back wall since i never have cause there was some algae on it and the tank was cloudy for a while so im guessing that maybe he went into shock? he was also never as bright orange as my other clown

he didnt seem to be too skinny never really checked him.. and never really got a chance to see his feces.. i went ahead and got another one from the same LFS that i bought my remaining Clown, i bought it smaller then the one in the tank, after i acclimated him and put him in mama started putting him in his place lol

LOL - yep that sounds about right. All your parameters sounded fine except that your salinity is a bit low, fyi. You actually want to keep it 1.025-1.026 although this probably had nothing to do with your clown's death... Also, I'm not sure how big/often of waterchanges you are doing - but another suggestion would be to make sure that you are not doing too big a water change at once as this puts alot of stress on tank inhabitants (b/c of rapid parameter fluctuation). And, I forgot to mention earlier to make sure and monitor the temperature also - if its a smaller tank your temperature may be fluctuating throughout the day causing stress on the clownies. This temperature jumping around us each day is reaking havoc on my tank's temps... up,down,up,down, lol.

i got one of those temperature readers that stick on the glass, but im going to be ordering a digital one pretty soon, every time i check it it seems to stay just the same
