If your conditions are right, the hair algae will die. There is a reason you don't have hair algae in the rest of your tank - it's because of the lack of nutrients and high dissolved oxygen levels.
If you want to manually remove it, just use tweezers.
By the way (and I'm not saying this to be a troll) are you sure you want star polyps in your tank? I know of some who would consider them as much a pest as hair algae. I think they look cool but they can spread pretty fast...
