Hair Algae Solution That Worked For Me

well for what it's worth I've been fighting algae for a while tried the algaefix and wow been just over a week now and Im abot 50% cured

Found this on another website

Comments: DON’T USE THIS PRODUCT! BUYER BEWARE!!! I used this is my 125 gallon saltwater that has been set up for years. All my fish have been completely healthy, never showing any signs of illness or stress. As soon as I put this in my tank my large queen angel became stressed and before I knew it she was dead! BUYER BEWARE!!!
I would not recommend this product to my friends.

morphill.......

Don't just hit and run.............u must give a little more than that, info is most important BUT let us make intelligent choices based on facts, not scare tactics, so where did u read that ?????

I added another dose last night which now brings be to about 21 days of treatement. My hair algae is pretty much gone. Any that is left is pretty much dried up and disintegrating. I may do one more dose and then see how it goes from there.

I'll give you a little more detail on my livestock. I have two sea stars, a blue starfish, hermit crabs (multiple types), Sally Light Foot, camel back shrimp, cleaner shrimp. For fish I have multiple types of tangs, lawnmower blenny, watchman goby and three dwarf angels. I also have a live sandbed.

Again... The only side effect I noticed was on my sponges. I have four branching sponges that seem to have developed some white areas. I'm not sure if that's even related to the Algaefix but it looks like I will lose one of the sponges.

I have not seen any side effects on corals or fish other than the sponge.

Some have asked on this post if it will effect a refugium. I don't know that answer as I don't have one. Definately something to think about.

Thanks

That is such great info! My situation almost perfectly mirrored yours . My parameters are perfect 20 percent water changes a week with 0 tds water. I run carbon and phosban that I change frequentlly. I have lots of flow and the stuff continues to grow. So as A last resort I had been thinking about the algaefix and I have now started the treatment. I hope it goes as well for me as it did for you. I do have a refugium with cheato but if I lose most of it I will be able to get more as long as the hair algae is gone I can live with loosing my cheato.

Youngreef.............

Good you test w/Refugium will be closely watched so please keep us up to date on your results..........thanks !!

Devoman.......during your use I don't recall are u running a skimmer thought the use ???

Yes that is a good question. I have a rather large skimmer that I wonder if I should leave going? I already stopped using the carbon and phosban.

I also had my phospate reactor with Rowaphos running the entire time. For a skimmer I run the Octopus Extreme 300.

I'm still pretty skeptical, but I just bought (2) 16oz. bottles...

I'll take some before/during/after pics once the treatment arrives.

dwimber.......

Me too, I just brought a bottle and I think I'll wait for youngreef to post results on his use as he is running a Refugium and because up here with no easy supply for cheato I really don't want to lose mine.......

I did one water change of about 15% during the treatment period. I just kept my normal water change schedule which is about once a month.

My order should be here in about 3-4 days... I don't hold out any hope of the cheato surviving, but to get rid of this nasty junk, I'd be okay with seeing it die. I'll clean my glass really well tomorrow, and take some "before" pics.

dwimber and all following....

I just received an answer from a request I made recently from API the manufacture (actually Marsfishcare is home company) of Algaefix Marine...and they say that the product is safe for use with Macro Algae when the direction are followed...as I stated to them in my reply if this the case they could be on to something VERY big as fighting and losing the battle w HA is a HUGE one...so we'll have to wait and see. I will be following your results and look forward to your pics...

Happy Holidays to all....
