Man I am jealous! We step out here and stay out for 2 mins, every thing freezes!

Anyway, good luck. I think its a great product (atleast in my case).

I have more info on this product.
It breaks down in your system after 24 hours and loses its affect.
I would make sure you work around all water changes.
It does not harm your macro algae cause it is thicker then hair algae and does not get harmed by the treatments.
Interesting, did they say anything about filtration medias like carbon, GFO, etc. affecting this?

What did you mean by "work around all water changes"?

I'm asking these questions as this product reminds me of one that Thiel had back in the 80's.

joined the bandwagon, started my first dose today. hair algae wasnt super extreme like some of these pics, but i have no cleanup crew atm. going to get a foxface, but as far as crabs not anytime soon as my rocks are suspended on some eggcrate a few inches. will keep up with updates!

If my HA didn't just start dying on its own, I would try some of this stuff. I might try it anyways to hit it again while its dying.

This thread needs more pics :D

I was advised that GFO and skimming would not prevent it from working. I also asked about carbon and they said it would be okay.
As far as doing water changes you need to allow the dosage to work for at least 24 hours.

I have two maxima (9" and 4") but have only put the first dose in the tank last night. My GHA is not plague proportion but it is in about 6 different locations. I want to stop it before it gets that bad.

Sorry Guys, I was not able to post the picture of the snail yesterday! This snail is my algae meter :) so here it is. The algae HAS THINED out on this guy. I'll consider the treatment successfull when I see his shell :) Oh! by the way, I am on my third treatment.

mad....

That's very cool a snail in camouflage......who knew...

:)

This guy is in my Refuge! And yes it is nicely camouflaged. I found it when I saw this wad of algae moving in a very systemic manner around some other algae. It can run now but can not hide!

OK guys time for update!

So after 6 doses and No carbon, no GFO, skimmer off first night after every dose and No water change during treatment period (I change water every month), I have to say the product work on hair algae. Even the famous snail algae meter has lost most of its cover of algae.

BUT People with refugium, this may not be your magic bullet. I came home today and saw my Cheatos has lost its color. It has not been doing so great after 4th dose. It usually floats up on the top but I noticed for last week or so, it kind of sank to the bottom and kind of lost control (like the house plants droop down!). Anyhow, right now, the upper portion of the cheato's clump is turing whiteish! :( Now that is BAD!!!
I have started the carbon, gfo back online again and will be doing some major water changed every other day (atleast 5 to 6 water changes, 20% each).
So here is my conclusion FOR MY SYSTEM ONLY, the algaefix works for killing hair algae but it also is bad for cheatos/refugium. All my corals/fish are fine and never showed any sign of stress. Every system is different and these conclusions are only for my system. you may have a completely different experience with your tank!

Also, thanks to OP who started this thread. I think we have a possible solution for hair algae. If I have to repeat this treatment again, I'll do it with my refuge offline.

Hope this helps to other reefers.
