"I used the magnesium treatment...used Kent Tech-M to raise magnesium to around 1600...all of the HA was melted away within 3 days. It was quite amazing, considering how long I'd fought it..."
I read this at zeovit forum.Do you think this work?

i am using kent marine tech m right now . my mag level is at 1650ish and my hair algea is melting away as was stated in tpal s tread . i have had the mag level there for about 6 weeks and my hair algea has taken a serious beating ! dont get me wrong i still have some but it isnt growing at anywhere the same rate .i would think its about 75% to 85% slower at least .now there is one other product that i began using 1 and 1/2 weeks ago its made by api and called "algea fix" marine ,the hair algea really fell apart after the third application of the algea fix IMO. the mag had really helped but it didnt kill it .i think together the two will work wonders ,i can see my rock ! its completly clean .i have been doing reg water changes also and dosing with mag to keep it above 1600 then the algea fix . together the have kicked its butt and the algea fix has a weekly dose to rid it for ,hopefully good !

okay that i do know but from what i have found researching this is that the kant marine TECH-M has something in it that may actually be the algea,s killer .suposidly the kent marine works better ,i have not done any side by side comparisons but i do know that hair algea is almost in the past as far as my tanks are concerned and i will use the kent marine to keep the level at 1650 so i dont have any problems .it took 2 years to find the solution so why mess with it ?

Turbo snails and the mag method both work. I never had a hair algae problem, though, so I speak from watching others! ;)

From people's experiences, it seems that the Tech-M is the only thing that works in this application. Using MgCl2 or MgSO4 doesn't, from what people say. Hence, it looks like the response has nothing to do with the elevated Mg++. Instead, the response is likely due to something else that's in the Tech-M, but nobody has any idea what that might be.

yes i think its safe to assume this ,but i wish that someone that knows what it is in the tech m that kills it off ,then we would be able to truly understand the situation .my hair algea is gone 98% once i raised the mag level with the tech m for approx 2 months now also i have used a liquid called ALGES FIX by API for approx 20 days and it is suposidly breaks the sugar chain and kills the algea that way .it is pretty much nonexistant ,i cant remember what the tank looked like with out hair algea until the last week or so.

i have tons of acans ,some lobos, gorgorians ,blastromussas, duncans and some dendros .so i dont have any sps but it does say reef safe ,and i assume its okay .if you have concerns you should contact API and throw a few questions their way.

I'm a service tech I've had a client that had a serious hair algae problem in their reef the best & safe way to get rid of hair algae permantly is to use turbo snails & peppermint snails trust me they are effective !

The above method has worked for me in the past and currently for Bryopsis (not hair) as what the recommendation is actually for. The hair algae continues to thrive, until I start doing WC's and get the Turbo snails going (which is happening now. The Bryopsis melts away, the hair has had to be "chewed off" though I can't figure out if the chew or suck??
You have to know what you're dealing with to properly fix it.

yup i would read that one ! with raised mag levels i had a good result but when i added the alges fix wow the algea just melted away . ireally think that the mag was doing well but my hat is off with the algea fix !IMO the algea fix was much better quicker and much more complete .
