Halide Height ?

I recently purchased a pair of the 250W PFO pendants with Pheonix 14,000 k HQI DE bulbs and Ice Cap Ele Ballasts. I was going to mount them into my existing hood, but sized it up last night, and think they need to be more than 3" off the water. I have a 75 gallon All Glass tank, 18"w x 48"l x 16"d. I will begin construction on a new hood tonight.

Anyone want to give me a recomendation on the height these "should" be off the water? Or dosen't it mater?

That was FAST. - any recomendations for switching out from the 1 year old compacts (4 @ 65W (2 atinic 2 @ 50/50) - Should I hold the lights up higher, or jst use shorter break in photo periods?

It's good to see someone else is propogating the hair... I mean Macro algae.

get some screening if u cant raise it, shorter photo period helps too.
