Halide Not Working

I got home from work today and my halide was off. The power light on my ballast is still on and my bulb looks normal. Does anyone near the UCF area have a 250 watt mogul-style bulb I can test my ballast with so I can figure out if it's my bulb or my ballast?

Thanks,
Jason

Um I cant help you with that. But is there a chance the power went off and the it wasnt off long enough for the ballest to cool down and reset? I have that problem with my lights.

I let it sit for quite awhile turned off and no dice. I've seen it go through the power flicker restart and it usually is back up in about 20 minutes. Also when I got home the ballast was cold. If the bulb does not start, should the ballast stay cold or should it heat up as though the bulb were on?

I have a bulb or two you can test out. I live off of Percival behind UCF. If your interested, PM me and I will give you my number and address.

The same exact thing happened to one of my lights today. Mine are 175w. Only one went out though and would not restart after a couple hours on either of my ballasts. What kind of bulbs are yours? Also what kind of ballast are you running yours on?

I'm running a JBJ K-1 ballast with a JBJ bulb. After I started this thread I noticed my alarm clock flickering so I'm guessing the power must have gone off at some point. I hope this didn't fry something. Right now I just have it on a surge protector, but is a UPS battery backup recommended?

I borrowed a bulb from cstires and the new bulb isn't firing. I gave JBJ a call and they said to replace the fuse. The fuse looks okay, but I'll try it anyways tomorrow and take it from there.

before you buy the fuse take it to where you are going to get the fuse. if it's radio shack have them test to see if there is any reisitance or if it's opened and that will tell you whats up.

If you have an Ohm meter you can test it yourself for continuity. If you don't I have one and could test it for you real quick.

BTW, it was nice to meet you today!

Well some good news! After reading your suggestions, I took the whole ballast apart, tested the fuse with an Ohmmeter (seemed to be working okay), made sure power was getting to the bulb outlet (it was), plugged it back in and now everything is working. I'm not sure what changed between the first post and now, but this has brightened up my evening (oh bad pun) :-)

Does anyone run their ballast on a UPS battery backup? I had considered it for that power-flicker situation and after this, I'm leaning more toward it.

Thanks for all your help with this and it was nice meeting you today Chris! You do some amazing tank stand work! I'll give you a call after work tomorrow and return your bulb.

Hey Jason,

Just saw your thread. The power must have went out at my house too since the clocks were all wack. Glad you got it fixed!
