Just picked up 2-50w Philips Halogena indoor/outdoor flood lamps from Home Depot to run over my razor Caulerpa and Chaeto. My Refugium is a 10 gal thats runs seperate from my sump, I can control any amount of flow in/out so heat will not be an issue, I will be running 2 of these lamps

I will be changing from a 28W 50/50 PC, which doesnt seem to light much space when placed directly on the tank

Here are the specs of the lamps
520 Lumens
2900K Color Temp

This is what it looks like, paid $6.49 each

Will it work or anyone else use these, I would much rather have the flood because of the internal reflector, works much better than just a normal screw in spiral bulb for my setup

2900K is way off from ideal, and I cant really comment on how it may work. Those little halogens pump out alot of heat, but with the amount of water you have it may not be an issue. I would be a little bit concerned that a splash of water may cause the bulbs to pop, although no more danger than running an unshielded MH fixture. Try it out and let us know how it works.

They do get hot, I have them mounted about 5 inches off the water, and there is no way to splash them, to avoid burning myself, whenever I will be working in there i will shut them off, also they are running 15 hours a day, reverse photo period, I have only had them running a day so no report yet
